Ricky Martin WILL be in the Revival of EVITA 2012

Rumors have been floating around  for the last year, and now it has been confirmed that Ricky Martin will star as Che in the Broadway revival of Evita, opening in spring 2012.

The contracts have been signed and he will join Argentine actress Elena Roger  who will star as Eva Peron, a role she played in London in 2006. Michael Grandage directed that production and will oversee the Broadway revival.

Martin said “I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to perform on many of the world’s largest concert stages, but I’ve never lost my love for the intimacy of the theater.

I’m delighted to know that after I’ve had the chance to share new music and tour over the coming year, that I will then return once again to Broadway. I’m looking forward to playing such an essential part in Michael Grandage’s wonderful production and the chance to work with the tremendously talented Elena Roger.”

Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin both won Tony Awards in 1980 for their performances as Eva and Che in the original Broadway production, which also won Tonys for best musical, director (Harold Prince), score, book and lighting design. That production ran for more than 1,500 performances, from September 1979 to June 1983.

Ricky talked to Billboard last week  about his new album MAS  and coming out.  While  he is very happy with his twins Matteo and Valentino he said he  wants to expand his family by adopting a girl. He is considering adopting a girl in near future.

“I want more  children. This is only the beginning of our family… I don”t know (how many). Maybe one, two more. But yeah, definitely. I need daddy”s girl!”
