Celebrity Fashion Designer Chris March Returns to BRAVO

Bravo is set to announce a quartet of reality shows in development, including three based in the celebrity-service industry.

The shows expand the network’s reality slate under new vp development Eli Lehrer, who was promoted in July to head the department.

“This is the first of many new developments we have going since we put our new development team in place,” Bravo president Francis Berwick said. “We’re specifically developing around our five passion potions: food, fashion, beauty, design and popular culture.”

One of  the projects WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT is an untitled series centering on celebrity fashion designer Chris March . The show will follow the former “Project Runway” contestant and his crew of fashion misfits as they create a one-of-a-kind design for a loyal clientele that includes Madonna and Meryl Streep. Matt Westmore Media and No Regrets Entertainment produce.

Lady Gaga Fights to Repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’

Lady Gaga
dominated the 2010 Video Music Awards, taking home a total of 8 awards!  During her acceptance speech for the coveted “Video of the Year” award, Gaga revealed the title of her forthcoming album, Born This Way, gave a sneak peak at one of its songs, and stole the show with her final outfit of the night, made of real, yes real, raw meat.

Gaga shared the spotlight at the event with a very special entourage consisting of former soldiers discharged from service due to “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” the policy of the United States’ military that forbids gay and lesbian soldiers from being open about their sexuality.

The superstar is now asking fans to join her and SLDN (Servicemembers Legal Defense Network) in helping repeal the discriminatory policy.  Since the inception of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in 1994, SLDN has been legally defending and fighting for the rights of the courageous service members unfairly discharged.

How can you help?  Head to SLDN.org  to find out who you can contact to make sure your voice is heard.

Alexander McQueen Continues – Underwear $55

After the sudden and tragic death of the designer Lee McQueen last month,
there has been mounting speculation over the future of the Alexander McQueen brand.

It’s comforting news then, that business appears to be continuing as usual:
the label has just launched its first men’s underwear collection for autumn/winter 2010.

Four different ranges make up the new collection, rooted from the “Basic” line,
which comprises boxers, briefs and vests in simple
block colours such as grey, black, white and navy.

But it’s the “Fashion” series which will appeal to true McQueen enthusiasts;
the collection draws inspiration from iconic McQueen prints and details,
such as the infamous skull print, and will be updated every season to include the freshest designs

$55  per pair. The collection will be available from June
this year at Alexander McQueen  and in stores worldwide.

Karl Lagerfeld and Coca Cola LIGHT Limited Edition Bottles

Coca Cola Light continues to honor fashion icons (overseas) with their latest limited edition bottle designed by and featuring CHANEL’s pony-tailed guru of couture, Karl Lagerfeld.

This favorite drink of women has called upon the genius of Karl Lagerfeld to dress the Coca-Cola light aluminum bottle. The designer lends his inimitable style and his unmistakable silhouette to the chic lines of the bottle, all in a special limited-edition box, accompanied by a bottle-opener hidden in a drawer. The Coca-Cola light box by Karl Lagerfeld is the must-have of the season and is now available via colette.

Over the last 3 years, various designers have done limited edition Coca Cola Bottles.

Last year, in Italy, Coca-Cola Light had a Tribute to Fashion to celebrate 100 years of the recognizable contour bottle. Well known Italian designers Alberta Ferretti, Blumarine, Etro, Fendi, Marni, Missoni, Moschino, and Versace each designed the following beautiful limited edition bottles.

Sadly, they were only available in Milan, but you can at least see them all  online .

IN 2008,  Roberto Cavalli was the first to launch  three Coca-Cola Light bottles. They are very hard to find. I saw a set on  EBAY  earlier this year  for  $100.

We Heart Gay Fashion Designer Chris March – Fabulous, Over The Top, and Larger Than Life

Chris March
is “Project Runway’s”
 fashionably outrageous costume
designer from Season 4 of the show.
(He was robbed! He should have won!).

We have been following him on his Project Runway blog   with commentary that has been  over-the-top and equally hilarious.

He also started his own blog last month, Chris March Explains It All  For You . “Somebody already took the title I wanted for my Blog… “Eat a Kitten”….who would take such a name? Here is why I wanted it: My friend Gordon and I used to joke about which one of us was more bitter about life.

One day in our garage, he said, “If I want something warm and fuzzy, I’ll eat a kitten.” This line has been re-quoted between the two of us for years. My personal favorite is, “You haven’t tasted bitter until you’ve bitten into me.” So, the gist of this blog will be bitter, sarcastic, funny, and maybe a little warm and fuzzy.”

March is originally from San Francisco, California, where he worked as a costume designer for the long-running musical revue, Beach Blanket Babylon. His client list includes Madonna, Cirque du Soleil, Prince, Beyoncé Knowles, Thierry Mugler and Meryl Streep. He designed Streep’s dress for the 2010 Academy Awards. He now resides in New York City and in January released a softcover coffee-table book which showcases his  many, many fabulous creations over the years.

I HEART CHRIS MARCH  is photographic proof of the insane career and creativity of Chris March. Giant wigs, skyscraping headpieces, outlandish costumes, and crazy couture come to life in this full color celebration of Chris’ creations of the last 25 years. From childhood Halloween photos to Bryant Park, this book is chock full of never before seen images. Buy one for your friends and one for yourself–you can finally have Chris March on your coffee table.

“it’s a picture book photographic memoir of 25 years of designing costumes. I have collected so many  pictures over the years. I have every costume photographed because most of the costumes are just TOO BIG to keep, so I end up throwing them away and keeping all the photos!”

Last week Chris announced his new greeting card line!  “I am so excited to be made into a line of greeting cards! What crazy people would do such a thing? The nice folks at NobleWorks approached me about the whole idea–and voila, you can see (and buy!) them for yourself at Noble Works Cards .

They took some of the images from my book (which by the way, you can also purchase on my website
) photoshopped them, cropped them, gave them funny headlines, and now you can insult your friends with a Chris March original! They will soon be for sale across the country, damaging the minds of people everywhere!!

I will be making an appearance at the National Stationery Show here in NYC in May (the 16th and 17th at the Javits Center from 1 to 4pm) to launch the new line, and meet people to sign cards and my book.

Who would have thought that breaking my neck in those headpieces would pay off one day?!!”

Keep up with Chris on his BLOG Chris March Explains It All   or  at his  design  website .

And BUY THE BOOK   Damn it!

Fashion Icon Alexander McQueen Found Dead Today in London

British fashion designer
Alexander McQueen

has been found dead after
apparently committing
suicide at his home.

The 40-year-old was discovered at his property in Green Street, in London’s West End, shortly after 10am today.

Paramedics were called but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said his death is not being treated as suspicious.

His death comes just days before London Fashion Week, which is due to open on February 19, and as final preparations were being made to unveil a spring collection in Paris.

McQueen’s close friend and fashion icon Isabella Blow, who helped launch his career, killed herself almost three years ago.

McQueen’s mother Joyce died on February 2. The designer told his followers on Twitter the sad news the next day.

He wrote: “i’m letting my followers know the my mother passed away yesterday if it she had not me nor would you RIP mumx”

A minute later he added:
“but life must go on!”

On Sunday McQueen wrote: “sunday evening been a f****** awful week but my friends have been great but now i have to some how pull myself together …”

McQueen’s Twitter page, McQueenWorld, has been taken down, but according to cached copies his last message was left on Tuesday.

Alexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue, said: “Lee McQueen influenced a whole generation of designers. His brilliant imagination knew no bounds as he conjured up collection after collection of extraordinary designs.

“At one level he was a master of the fantastic, creating astounding fashion shows that mixed design, technology and performance and on another he was a modern-day genius whose gothic aesthetic was adopted by women the world over.

“His death is the hugest loss to anyone who knew him and for very many who didn’t.”

Designer Katherine Hamnett said: “He was a genius. What a terrible, tragic waste.”

A former British Designer of the Year winner, Mr McQueen started his career as an apprentice in Savile Row, where he learned how to make jackets at Gieves and Hawkes.

In 1996, the man nicknamed “the hooligan of English fashion”, with his close-cropped hair and Doc Martens, was named head designer at the Paris couture house of Givenchy.

A statement released by his office – referring to the designer by his given first name, Lee – read: “On behalf of Lee McQueen’s family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand has been found dead at his home.

“At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee’s family.

“Lee’s family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this.”
