Keeping Up With Mike and Sebastian

Keeping Up with Mike & Sebastian

By Joey Amato

LGBTQ Americans may not have heard of Mike and Sebastian yet, but that is all about to change. The extremely handsome duo is currently living in Vienna, Austria but planning to relocate to Palm Springs in 2023 to start a new life together with their 7-year-old daughter Mia. They will be featured on one of Germany’s most highly watched reality television shows called Goodbye Deutschland.

Mike and Sebastian are local celebrities in German-speaking countries, having been involved in numerous entrepreneurial ventures and frequent guests of the media especially when it comes to speaking about two dad families.

Before we talk about their latest endeavors, here is a bit of background information. Mike was a singer who won Austria’s first TV band casting at the age of 21 and was a member of the pop band Sugarfree, with which he also won Austria´s national music prize “Amadeus”. He then passed the bar exam and in 2011 purchased a facility management company, restructured it, and had a successful business exit in 2022. After that he published the international bestseller “Blake the Drake and the enchanted Egg” which became a #1 bestseller on Amazon.

At the age of 24, Sebastian won a major national competition to develop an app for politics. He won €100,000 and was dubbed “the €100,000 man” in the media. He took over a small family business with a turnover of $250,000 dollars, which he, as sole owner, was able to develop within only a few years into an international player on the prefabricated house market bringing in over $7 million dollars in revenue.

Mike and Sebastian first met in 2015 at an event hosted by friends. Neither of them had planned to attend that night but as fate would have it, Mike immediately caught Sebastian’s eye. Mike had failed to read the invitation carefully and was wearing his provocative Life Ball outfit in the middle of a black-tie affair.

On their third date, Mike broke the news to Sebastian that he was about to become a father to a little girl, which he had made possible with the help of an egg donor and a surrogate mother. Mike’s daughter Mia was born on July 2, 2015.  Much to his surprise, Mike received a loving and deeply touching letter from Sebastian, but it wasn’t addressed to him. It was addressed to Mia.

When Mike returned with baby Mia, the couple embarked on life together—not in a cozy, romantic relationship for two, but as two young dads getting used to everyday life with a small child. It wasn’t always easy, but the bond grew stronger, and their love stood the test of time. A deep understanding for their partner’s struggles and mutual, unconditional support of one another are integral parts of Mike and Sebastian’s life together today.  With Mia by their side, Mike and Sebastian were married in Bora Bora in 2021.

The dynamic duo is invested in making the Mike&Sebastian brand just as successful on the American market as it is in German-speaking countries. “In concrete terms, this means bringing a critical mass into contact with our family concept so that it is anchored as normal in the public eye. We’re talking about 10%-14% of society. Dream BIG,” Mike says enthusiastically.

“As role models for gay men who want a family, it is important to us to bring this understanding of family to the public,” mentions Sebastian. “Goodbye Deutschland has a reach of 1,600,000 viewers in German-speaking countries. This brings our vision of normalizing 2dadfamilies a long way.”

The couple is also in the process of turning their social media and media activities into their full-time job. Being on such a successful and popular show is a great step in that direction.

Mike and Sebastian have committed to producing one season, however, there are couples who have been on the show regularly for 15 years and the production company has already indicated a long-term partnership. The show will visit Mike and Sebastian once they arrive in Palm Springs to follow their surrogacy journey also be present during the birth of their second child. They were planning on welcoming him in August, but nature had other plans. “After a long search for a new egg donor (unfortunately, Mia’s egg donor was no longer able to donate) we found our perfect match and now have 4 embryos again, although the first transfer just didn’t work. Of course, this is disappointing for us, but we are still in good spirits, knowing that the baby that is meant for us will come to us.”

Two successful gay men can move anywhere in the world, so why Palm Springs? “Palm Springs is like a dream come true for us,” mentions Mike. “Same-sex marriage has only been legal in Austria since 2019, so you can imagine how the population is attuned to homosexuals. We are not confronted with violence there, but with disregard, ignorance, and exclusion. Hardly a day goes by that we don’t hear a whisper behind our backs.”

The couple has learned to live with it, but suddenly it began to affect their daughter Mia because nearly none of her friends have ever heard of the fact that same-sex couples can have children. Children don’t mean it badly, of course, but Mia grows up with the suggestion from those around her that it’s not ok the way her family is. She was even called a liar because she confidently said that two men can of course have a baby, which is how it is with us. “One of the things we want to do with the move to Palm Springs is to take the pressure off of this situation.”

They also wanted their second child to grow up in a more inclusive environment and thought Palm Springs would be the perfect location.

“Because of our second baby, we considered taking part in the surrogacy process in the United States and moving to California,” Sebastian explains. “We checked out a few places but fell in love with Palm Springs immediately when we visited. We had a very special feeling there, we couldn’t classify it at first and then we were able to name it: Hey – nobody whispers behind our backs. We are “normal” here – we do not belong to a minority but to a majority. It was unbelievable for us, and we want the same for Mia and our second baby, so it happened that we made long-term plans to emigrate, and now the time has finally come.”

The couple will hit the ground running as soon as they land. They have a temporary place to live but will immediately begin looking for a home and office. In fact, Mia begins school just two days after they arrive in the city.

Do You Take This Man GAY MOVIE NEWS

Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired North American rights to the gay marriage drama “Do You Take This Man,” starring Anthony Rapp, Alyson Hannigan, and Jonathan Bennett.

The film had its U.S. premiere at Outfest, and went on to play the Cleveland International Film Festival, Reeling-Chicago and Out in Film: Atlanta.

Joshua Tunick directed from his own script. It’s very well done, filmed epertly, and has an amazing ensemble cast!  Joshua is  also producing with publicist-turned-producer Eric Kops and Dave Perkal. Breaking Glass is planning a July limited theatrical followed by a VOD/DVD release.

The story follows an intimate group of friends and family gathering at the home of two gay men — portrayed by Rapp and Bennett — to celebrate their nuptials. When the wedding hits a snag, the group helps the grooms to see that all marriages have their challenges.

Variety first reported on the project in 2015 as shooting was starting in Los Angeles, when the film was titled “Modern Love.” Thomas Dekker, Mackenzie Astin, Alona Tal, Hutchi Hancock, Marla Sokoloff, Lee Garlington (from the Magicians)  and Sam Anderson also star.

“The Supreme Court’s decision on marriage equality came down on the last day of filming ‘Do You Take This Man,’” said Kops. “With the recent shift in the political climate, the story is as timely as ever.”

Producers have said that while the film is about gay marriage, their intention is to remove the importance of the “gay” or “straight” descriptor and tell a story about the importance of the commitment of marriage. – And it’s true. The film explores issue’s that could apply  to any couple, gay or straight. Many feelings are explored, from jealousy and insecurity  to true romance – this isn’t a  fluff  movie.   HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

They are NOT getting  married – but have written performed  a  duet together.

LOOK  AWAY

LYRICS:
I’ll never touch your body again
We gave it our all, but this is the end
So we say that we tried
Watching you fade, I know it’s goodbye

But I can’t look away from you
I can’t look away
I’m trying to face the truth
from the mess that we made
So we say that we tried
But I can’t look away from you
I can’t look away

I miss watching you sleep
You scent on my sheets
Such a bitter-sweet, beautiful mind
haunting my dreams
So I know you’ll be fine, say “it’s alright”
Watching you fade, cause this is goodbye

But I can’t look away from you
I can’t look away
I’m trying to face the truth
from the mess that we made
So we say that we tried
But I can’t look away from you
I can’t look away

I’ll be okay, are you okay?
Thinkin’ about the way that we left this
Will I grow to regret it
Watching you fade
I know it’s goodbye

But I can’t look away from you
I can’t look away
I’m trying to face the truth
from the mess that we made
So we say that we tried
But I can’t look away from you
I can’t look away

Lady Bunny GOING TO THE CHAPEL

kim-davis-kentucky-and-lady-bunny

After electing a new GOP governor tonight, I thought Kentucky could use a little cheering up with a giggle or two! Governor Bevin was a big supporter of Kim Davis, even visiting her in jail and rallying evangelical voters to her cause–which was refusing to do her job as a marriage clerk and wed gay couples in her county. My condolences to the 48% of the Kentucky electorate who voted against Bevin.

Mikey Wax Love Always Wins Anthem

love always wine i am cait

A new anthem for summer 2015!

Singer / Songwriter Mikey Wax has a  best friend who is gay. “His words of hope and happiness after the Supreme Court ruling inspired this song. I truly believe that despite race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation, love always wins.”

In celebration of the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling that guarantees a constitutional right to same-sex marriage, on-the-verge pop artist Mikey Wax has unveiled his tribute single “Love Always Wins (#LoveWins)” featuring Prophecy, and RyanSeacrest.com had the exclusive world premiere recently.

The trumpet-laden track, which is the namesake of the viral hashtag inspired by SCOTUS’ 5-to-4 vote, celebrates the historic decision with anthemic lyrics that recognizes the country’s progressive strides and the core reason for decades of same-sex litigation and activism.

E! Entertainment immediately placed the song in their promo commercial for Caitlyn Jenner’s new TV series “I Am Cait”. The promo will run 6-8 weeks!

Stop LGBTQ Discrimination

fckh8-equal-rights

GREAT!   We have  Marriage Equality…….now how about  LGBT Employment Discrimination?   I can marry  my partner, but then my boss can fire me if wants  to (in most states).

IN A NEW video of real people talking about civil rights progress that’s helped them – and then the big reveal at the end hits you like a gut punch: it’s 2015, and it’s still legal to fire and discriminate against people simply because they’re LGBT.

The newest provocative spot from FCKH8.com (“Potty-Mouthed Princesses”) spotlights that despite progress in so many other areas, laws across the country continue to deny gay people basic anti-discrimination protections on the job.

In the video, available here https://youtu.be/tdVSxmh6YTA , people from various walks of life – women, blacks, disabled people – each identify major civil rights milestones in America. Each speaker represents a year when others like them were finally offered legal protection from discrimination in the U.S. – from African Americans becoming citizens in 1866, to people with disabilities getting access to public places through the Americans with Disabilities ACT in 1990. Each is wearing a T-shirt printed with the year they gained a fundamental right.

When the two gay men holding hands who are the video’s final subject are revealed, their T-shirts display question marks. “It’s 2015, and there is still no federal law protecting LGBT people against discrimination. What’s our year?” they plead.

“In an era when it feels like progress is so rapid, including the Supreme Court ruling that was so important, we knew people would be shocked to discover there’s still this huge national inequality,” video producer Mike Kon said. “It sounds unbelievable and disappointing: you can get married on Saturday, but then you can still be legally fired for being LGBT when back at work on Monday.”

In addition to raising awareness of the issue through its viral video, FCKH8.com is encouraging people to get involved in the conversation on social media and support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), legislation proposed in the United States Congress that would prohibit discrimination in hiring and employment on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity by employers. The social-change T-shirt company also encourages people to “speak out and stand out” for the cause with shirts that make provocative, change-motivated statements.

Reacting to the recent untested Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC) ruling that found that anti-LGBT job discrimination was already illegal under existing protections based on sex, FCKH8.com activists are pushing for more definitive on-the-job protections. “Congress need stop to step up to the plate and protect LGBT Americans from discrimination and finally pass explicit and clear job protections with ENDA” Kon said.

Gay Day of the Dead Art

Gay Day of the Dead: the art of José Antonio Madrazo

By Sebastián Sáenz

@sebastiaenz

History, traditions and folk culture have inspired artists for centuries in order to show the world their unique perspective. Human beings have developed a special need to express feelings, thoughts and facts though all kinds of materials such as clay, marble, wood, oil, installations, words and even their own body, but José Antonio Madrazo is a particular case. His original proposal shows one of the most popular Mexican celebrations with an unexpected twist: an LGBT version of The Day of the Dead.

gay wedding day of the dead lesbian-pink-wedding

Most of us are tired of bringing back home after any trip the same souvenirs: the cheap post card, the t-shirt that will lose all colors after the second wash, and the tacky fridge magnet. That is why José Antonio, located in the breathtakingly beautiful and LGBT friendly San Miguel de Allende (one of the most popular little towns of Mexico), got inspired by this important date in order to celebrate diverse love with his art crafts. The career of this artist started in the early 90s, he has worked with different forms of design, and his current proposal projects his identity, sensitivity, creative voice, humor and Mexican Culture, such as the Day of the Dead.

gay wedding nichos mexican art

Mexico’s Day of the Dead is a very ancient tradition that mixes Pre-Colonial, Colonial and folk elements of the Mexican culture. The day of the Dead is an annual celebration to remember the life of the loved ones that are no longer with us. Mexicans build altars with flowers, candles, photographs and objects attached to the person that passed away. They also have hot chocolate, candy skulls and Bread of Dead, a sweet pastry with bone-shaped bread sticks on top. Some people dress as Catrinas, the quintessential character of this party: the grim reaper represented as a feminine skelleton, dressed in a colorful gown with flowers and even a huge hat with bright feathers. Some Mexicans even actually go to graveyards and spend the night of November 1st and 2nd in a huge celebration with music, food and laughter; their on way to make fun of Death, and to enjoy life.

gay-day-of-the-dead

No wonder why José Antonio, along with his team of artisans, have been so inspired. All of his pieces are one of a kind, manicured and can be custom made in order to satisfy every customer’s wishes. He mixes clay figurines with traditional crafting techniques, metal, vintage photographs, images of papers, magazines and board games, and even historic heroes and religious icons. Some of his contemporary, funny, pretty and affordable pieces can even portray same sex figures and jokes.

The world usually relates Mexico to lucha libre, Taco Bell, telenovelas and, in worst cases, Dora the Explorer. Of course these are stereotypes, and even though some of them are based on actual facts, it is well known that a whole country cannot be associated with just a few generalizations. Mexico is a country that offers so much more than what the world sees on news or in a five star resort in Cancun. It is rich in gastronomy, history, infrastructure, technology, science, academia, natural resources, art and cultural and social progress. Maybe its biggest artist is Frida Kahlo, however, there are obviously new artists such as José Antonio, with innovative, interesting, intricate and beautiful work that the world has to know and appreciate.

Día de Muertos… Gay: el arte de José Antonio Madrazo
Por Sebastián Sáenz
@sebastiaenz

Gandalf and Dumbledore are getting married!

Gandalf and Dumbledore are getting married!

Dumbledore and Gandalf are getting married across from the Westboro Baptist Church and using CrowdRise to fundraise for Planting Peace.

This Sunday, JK Rowling¹s dream of a wedding between Harry Potter¹s Dumbledore and Lord of the Rings¹ Gandalf will take place. US equality group Planting Peace will be hosting ŒWizards Wed at the WBC¹ – a wedding ceremony between the two wizards at the Equality House located across the street from the anti-gay group Westboro Baptist Church.  In lieu of wedding gifts for the soon-to-be-wed Wizards, Planting Peace hopes to raise funds for their mission via a CrowdRise site here: https://www.crowdrise.com/WizardsWed/fundraiser/Planting-Peace.

Aaron Jackson, founder of Planting Peace, created the organization “to take a stand against the hurtful words and actions of hate groups like the WBC,² and so “LGBTQ [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer] youth understand that they have a broad platform of love and support in this world.² The organization is constantly reinforcing this mission through innovative and creative fundraisers on CrowdRise.com, like Virtual Pizza, which raised nearly $80K in response to the Religious Freedom Reformation Act.

More about it here.

³When we read the battle between J.K. Rowling and the Westboro Baptist Church, we instantly connected with Ms. Rowling¹s message on many levels. The Equality House was founded to take a stand against the hurtful words and actions of hate groups like the WBC. People often question why we even mention them, and Ms. Rowling¹s words were spot on. We must actively stand up to hate and ensure that LGBTQ youth understand that they have a broad platform of love and support in this world. That is a core part of what we do at Planting Peace. We are delighted to be hosting the Dumbledore and Gandalf wedding and stand with them in the face of bigotry and celebrate equality for all. The WBC won’t have to go too far to picket this union. They can look out their front window.²- Aaron Jackson/ President Planting Peace

Gays Discriminate Against Christians

gays-against-christians

WHAT IF ….gays  discriminated  against Christians?  We quit doing there flowers, we quit cutting their  hair, we don’t serve them drinks or food in bars or restaurants, we don’t  provide ANY SERVICES FOR THEM?!

This is Truth Wins Out’s second video in its “Religious Freedom Farce” campaign, which highlights the real-world consequences of laws that purport to protect religious liberty, when in reality they only promote exclusion. In our new video, we show how such laws can open a can of worms and backfire on the “Christian” sponsors of such bills.

“If LGBT people can be discriminated against based on faith, so can Christians,” said Truth Wins Out Executive Director Wayne Besen. “There are millions of Americans who are not Christian and may abuse these laws to exclude people based on their Christian beliefs. This, of course, would be unacceptable and wrong, but one of the many unintended consequences of these divisive laws that promote prejudice.”

In our latest ad, a gay man who runs a theater company forbids a Christian from buying tickets to a show after he sees a cross hanging from his neck. Citing the “Church of Harvey Fierstein,” he directs the Christian to go to a theater that shows “Passion of the Christ.” This is a plausible example of what could occur under such ridiculous bills that allow the gutting of anti-discrimination laws based on declarations of “sincere” faith. The video dramatization was created for Truth Wins Out by Chicago-based performance artist Eric Clements and filmmaker Ben Nissen.

“We are actually putting judges in the untenable position of deciding whose faith is sincere and whose is not,” said Truth Wins Out’s Executive Director Wayne Besen. “These laws also violate separation of church and state, because courts will be required to decide which religions are real and which are concocted for the sole purpose of discrimination. But doesn’t that unconstitutionally create ‘acceptable’ state sponsored religions, while others are decaled officially unacceptable?”

The first ad in our campaign, “Religious Freedom Café,” takes these “religious freedom” bills to their logical conclusion. It focuses on an African American man who is told to leave a restaurant because serving black people is against the owner’s religious beliefs.   WATCH  NOW

Cam and Mitch Get Divorced?

cam and mitch divorce

Say it isn’t so!!!  Cam and Mitch from Modern Family will file for divorce this season?!

It was a family affair at Modern Family’s PaleyFest panel on Saturday night, when the writers and cast of the hit ABC comedy gathered at the television festival to share personal stories and anecdotes about the show. And it was apparent that this cast really is like a family, and they don’t actually need writers to be funny.

The Season 5 wedding finale was a personal victory for the writers. Levitan said when they started working on the idea of Mitchell and Cameron getting married, “things were still up in the air politically.” But, he added, “We started breaking the story for the wedding because we thought things would go a certain way in terms of the law for gay people to be married.” Once the gay marriage laws were passed in California, the writers spent a year building up to the ceremony.

Julie Bowen, who plays Claire Dunphy,  talked about the  potential storyline for the next season involving television’s leading gay married couple:

We have a very exciting opening to season 7. Cam and Mitch want to get a divorce and they find that gay divorce is not legal and have to spend the entire season fighting for the rights of gays to divorce. It’s an emotional ending..

Is this true??  or  maybe  a joke??

Dolce Gabbana Backtrack after Backlash

mr dolce and gabbana

Fashion designer Stefano Gabbana has vigorously defended his criticism of gay adoptions, using social media to create a range of hashtags and slogans – but none have really taken off.

They say, BOYCOTT  ELTON JOHN! In a post Monday Gabbana shouted “Fascist!” and took direct aim at the singer: “#boycotteltonjohn”. On his Instagram account, as you might expect, there was quite a lot of support for his criticism of Elton John among the hundreds of comments.

#SupportDolceGabbana, has around 2,700 tweets. But both are up against #BoycottDolceGabbana which has been used more than 30,000 times.

Singer Ricky Martin, the father of twins born by a surrogate mother, called on the pair to “wake up” in a message on Twitter, admonishing the designers that their voices were too powerful to spread hate.

NOW, Gabbana said in a statement that “it was never our intention to judge other people’s choices. We do believe in freedom and love.”

Dolce says he was expressing his view about family based on his experience growing up in a traditional Sicilian family “made up of a mother, a father and children. I am very well aware of the fact that there are other types of families and they are as legitimate as the one I’ve known.”

Dolce said he was expressing his personal views “without judging other people’s choices.”

Dolce Gabbana Against Gay Adoption

dolce and gabanna gay marriage adoption

In a 2006 interview with an Italian newspaper, Dolce (of Dolce & Gabbana) expressed  views against gays adopting, saying:

“I am opposed to the idea of a child growing up with two gay parents. A child needs a mother and a father. I could not imagine my childhood without my mother. I also believe that it is cruel to take a baby away from its mother.”

NOW,

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana say: ‘The only family is the traditional one’   –  in an interview with Italy’s Panorama magazine.

Sir Elton John has called for a boycott of fashion label Dolce & Gabbana after the legendary designers criticised same-sex families.

In a scathing post on picture sharing site Instagram, the furious singer branded Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana “judgmental” and “archaic”.

It followed an interview with the designers in Italy’s Panorama magazine in which the pair said: “We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one.

“No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed.”

Dolce added that procreation “must be an act of love”, saying: “You are born to a mother and a father – or at least that’s how it should be.

“I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalog.”

Gabbana added: “The family is not a fad. In it there is a supernatural sense of belonging.”

How can gay people  say this???? You are in the public eye and gay people buy your clothes!  LIE if you disagree.

An estimated 37% of LGBT adults have had a child and there are an estimated 6 million children with LGBT parents.

Diversity & Inclusion – Love Has No Labels

love-has-no-labels

BRILLIANT!

No wonder this went viral this week! The Ad Council did an excellent job communicating  love is  love.

While the vast majority of Americans consider themselves unprejudiced, many of us unintentionally make snap judgments about people based on what we see—whether it’s race, age, gender, religion, sexuality, or disability. This may be a significant reason many people in the U.S. report they feel discriminated against. Subconscious prejudice—called “implicit bias”—has profound implications for how we view and interact with others who are different from us. It can hinder a person’s ability to find a job, secure a loan, rent an apartment, or get a fair trial, perpetuating disparities in American society. The Love Has No Labels campaign challenges us to open our eyes to our bias and prejudice and work to stop it in ourselves, our friends, our families, and our colleagues.
