Sexy Steve Grand First Album in March

steve grand gay chicago

CHICAGO’s sexy and talented Steve Grand is gearing up for release his debut album All American Boy March 24 after a very successful Kickstarter last year, Out reports:

Grand is an openly gay singer who’s certainly country-inspired, but does not self-identify as a country artist. “Music is subjective,” Grand says, “The lines of life are blurring. We are seeing that in music as in sexuality and gender identity…There’s nothing different about my music just because I’m gay. I sing about things that I go through, but they are things that we all go through, regardless of sexual orientation.” […]

A full-length album has also allowed Grand to follow an arc or storyline. “Each song needed to function as a plot point on that arc. A lot of things in life follow that trajectory, where there’s a beginning, middle, and end. Relationship do that, growing up does that, life does that.” Every number, Grand adds, ”explores some kind of relationship, whether it be a relationship with a romantic partner, a relationship with a friend, a relationship with the past, a relationship with something destructive, a relationship with a community.”

Jimmy Sommerville HOMAGE CD

jimmy sommerville

Pop icon and social rights trailblazer Jimmy Somerville Makes Highly Anticipated Return

With New Album HOMAGE

dropping March 10th

Membran has announced the release of hugely anticipated album from Jimmy Somerville – HOMAGE arrives in America on March 10th.

The euphoric joy of disco has been one consistent thread, which has run through the diverse, illustrious thirty-year career of pop legend Jimmy Somerville.

“Travesty”, written by Jimmy and produced by long-time producer John Winfield, is a taster of his forthcoming album Homage that as the title suggests, pays homage to the disco era. The emphasis throughout the recording of the new album has been on achieving the musical authenticity of the original disco era Jimmy grew up with and loves so much.
jimmy-sommerville--cd-2015

A proud Jimmy Somerville comments: “I’ve finally made the disco album I always wanted to and never thought could. If I was 15 again I’d buy it, sit on my bed, slowly open the gate-fold, slide out the vinyl, place it on the turntable then jump off the bed and imagine someone just passed me a tambourine…I’d be in heaven!  The horns, the strings, the bass, the guitars, the drums, the backing vocals and the melody….the escape. So open your ears embrace the groove and pay homage to an all too easily derided sound … I LOVE Disco!”

Some of the biggest selling tracks amongst Jimmy Somerville’s colorful and vast back catalogue are his unique takes on some of the anthems that defined the disco era. Covers of classics such as “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)”, “Never Can Say Goodbye”, “Don’t Leave Me This Way” and “I Feel Love”, saw Jimmy bring his upbeat sensibility to these tracks along with his unique, instantly identifiable voice; one of the defining voices of our times.

The recording of Homage saw Jimmy undertake a painstaking replication of the sounds of vintage disco anthems, which inspired him and has been an extended labor of love.

30 years after the release of “Smalltown Boy”, this new celebratory chapter in Jimmy’s career starts right here.

CHER Cancels Remaining Tour Dates

cher cancels tour

SAY IT ISN’T  SO!!!!

Cher  cancels  remaining dates  of the Farewell, Farewell, Farewell  tour   aka  Dressed to Kill!

Back in September,  CHER became ill and and had to reschedule all her remaining concert dates.

Now, she’s been forced to cancel all those rescheduled dates because she still hasn’t made a full recovery.

“I am totally devastated. Nothing like this has ever happened to me,” Cher said in a statement. “I cannot apologize enough to all the fans who bought tickets. I’m so proud of this show. It is my best ever. I sincerely hope that we can come back again next year and finish what we started.”

The singer, 68, wrapped up the first leg of her Dressed to Kill tour in March, but before she embarked on a second leg, she contracted an infection that affected her kidney function, leading the postponement and rescheduling of the dates. Now, her doctors have advised her that she needs even more time to ensure a “complete and total recovery.”

Ticket holders can get refunds at the point of purchase.

The dates were to have run through January, and included two shows at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden.  –  What about a  DVD?  I would guess,  the Madison Square Garden  will get rescheduled  and filmed   for  DVD.  This really could be her farewell  show.

Bette Midler Talks Gays and Tour

bette midler 2014 2015 tour

In a recent issue of the  Advocate the Divine Miss M talked about the good ole’ gays and what she misses about the  gays gone bye.

“[I miss] the extreme characters you used to see in the Village in the old days,” she said. “You just don’t see them anymore.”

“I really do miss them because there was a feeling I used to get that people were expressing themselves in the most elaborate of ways. Now the [gay community] has kind of gone mainstream. It’s sort of ordinary now, and a little bit of the specialness has rubbed away.

“It used to be the love that dare not speak its name and now it’s the love that won’t shut the fuck up…but seriously, the great thing about the gay revolution is that it has become ordinary and I’m happy to see how far it’s come and to see the community be more at peace with itself and, I want to say, more homogenized. Even being considered a gay icon — which was something that used to be whispered and bandied about — has become sort of mainstream, and that’s a good thing.”

Really?? That’s a good thing Bette?   Blending and mixing in? The loss of gayborhoods?

Bette is touring in 2015 and at most venues,  get a copy of It’s The Girls with every ticket purchased online.

Kiesza Sound of a Woman

kiesza-sound-of-a-woman

I received this CD  in the mail to listen to AND IT’S REALLY GOOD!!

Kiesza is a singer-songwriter from Calgary, and is also an in-demand songwriter for acts across the globe, puts together her own stunning artwork, is a trained ballerina, and a former tall-ship sailor who the Army once attempted to train as a sniper.

Kiesza’s first songs had a distinctly folky edge, but her writing would soon expand to other genres. After recording a few demos with a friend, she decided to submit a CD to Selkirk’s music school, before setting sail for Hawaii. Upon arrival in Hawaii, she received a call saying she was accepted without an audition or interview. Kiesza left Hawaii, and after a year at Selkirk received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston.

After attending Berklee, she went to New York City to advance her music career. One professor knew Kiesza had a rare skill and put her in touch with recent graduate Rami Samir Afuni. The well-paired duo started experimenting with music and songwriting, and still does to this day. Kiesza’s transition from folk to her new evolving sound has developed naturally, as she idolized Michael Jackson when she was younger, and grew up listening to dance-floor dominating voices like Martha Wash, CeCe Peniston and Robin S. More recently, Disclosure and Hot Natured have been added to her musical influences, as well as nights spent dancing at New York’s Body & Soul events.

In January 2014, ‘Hideaway’ was released by Rami’s own Lokal Legend label, and soon after Kiesza moved to London. The track was recorded in just over an hour; just before Kiesza was due to get on a flight. The song’s video was shot in one-take on the streets of Brooklyn, and showcases Kiesza’s attention-grabbing dance moves.

There are no half measures for Kiesza. A committed artist whose extraordinary ambition is matched only by her unusual clarity of vision and overwhelming talent, this former queen of the high seas has spent years plotting a course to the epicenter of pop. In 2014 her voyage is just beginning, and everyone is welcome along for the ride.

Kiesza announces her debut album, Sound of a Woman (Island Records/4th and B’way/Lokal Legend), which hits stores October 21.
Her hit single “Hideaway” rocketed to the #1 spot in the UK charts earlier this year and remains the fastest-selling debut of year.
“Hideaway” went platinum in the UK and Canada; additionally, the song charted #1 in 27 countries on iTunes. The song was paired with a delicious throw back video that has captured over 110 million viewers to date.  Kiesza also announces upcoming U.S. dates.

Linda Eder Live in Concert

linda-eder-liv-in-concert

In an era in which artists feel liberated to produce and distribute their music in their own way — minus record-label intrusion — singer Linda Eder has released independently the most charismatic recording of a career that has stretched more than 20 years.

“Linda Live: The Concert Recording” cannot be found on Amazon, iTunes or any other platform for music sales. But because Eder stands as the greatest contemporary vocalist in the tradition of Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand, perhaps listeners will find their way to Eder’s first live album (available only at lindaeder.com and at the singer’s shows).

Gay Singer Gallavin Releases 2nd CD

gallavin gay singer

Gallavin releases his second album So Sad the Songs next week. Under the sign of melancholy, this album traces the spleens of lost years and time passing by. It narrates the solitude of old broken hearted lovers whose once flamboyant passion has faded out throughout the seasons. So Sad the Songs is a journey through nostalgic and melancholic songs of yesterday arranged by Guy-François Leuenberger and Pierre Sottas.

The first single Avec le temps from Léo Ferré and its music video highlight the spirit of the new album. In a chiaroscuro atmosphere, the music video symbolizes with the circular movements how time weakens our passions and leaves us frozen in big the theatre of our lives.

Gallavin is performing three showcases to present his new album with the company of Catherine d’Oex the 1st, 2nd and 15th November 2014, respectively at the Palais DuPayrou in Neuchâtel, at the Jet’lag Club, MAD in Lausanne, and at Dialogai (INSIDE) in Genève, at 7pm. Gallavin is also singing the 13th November 2014  at the theatre of the Moulin-Neuf in Aigle at 7:30pm with François Bettens at the piano. Details can be found on www.gallavin.com.

The CD can only be ordered on Gallavin’s website www.gallavin.com. The album can nevertheless be downloaded on different Internet stores.

bette  says, “I have loved the sound of females harmonizing since I was a kid; I always sang along. Didn’t we all? […] I think the idea that you could become part of the group was the thing that endeared me to the girl groups. You weren’t just singing along, you were THERE!”
