Michael Chase DiMartino Brings Joy The Gay Music World With His Hard Candy

New York native,
Chase, began performing at a young age. He sang in Carnegie Hall when he was 16. Later, he performed in a play called “Kosher Harry” for which he received rave reviews from the New York Times for his leading role. Now writing and producing his own songs, Chase endeavors to bring communities together through his music.

Michael “Chase” DiMartino is a new breed of Clark Kent. By day, the 26-year-old serves as a sign-language interpreter — translating meetings for a deaf business woman in New York City. By night, the Bay Ridge, Brooklyn native is using his hands — and his moves — for another lofty purpose: To bring the likes of Britney Spears and Lady Gaga to the deaf and hearing-impaired communities through the art of sign language.

After he posted interpretive videos of “Womanizer ,” on YouTube,  Britney Spears herself had them posted to her website, bringing DiMartino’s videos over the 700,000-viewer threshold. He’s been asked to interpret Lady Gaga’s  sold-out show at Madison Square Garden (check out his sign-language video for “Bad Romance ” ). A singer-songwriter and performer in his own rite, Chase has been  showcasing his own original material and, in doing so, hoping to bridge the hearing and deaf communities in a way that has never been done before.

His latest effort is  HARD  CANDY !  With the release of this video, Chase has discussed a little about his sexuality. He starts off by saying:

Gay? Who me? Not such a big issue to me. I don’t believe music has a gender. It has no sex. The art of music does not differentiate between its gay or straight counterparts. For myself, I identify as gay only because it seems to be the most …easily explained, and also, more readily accepted.

But if I were to break it down, I would say this: ‘I truly believe myself to love a person for who they are. Gender unattached. I believe that if the right female came along, I could fall in love (and have, with women in the past). But as it stands right now, I am in love with one who happens to be a male.’

As for music, I speak for myself when I say, who cares? If you like the song, buy it, support me. If you don’t like the song because I am gay and have some gay imagery in the video, I wouldn’t need that sort of fan anyhow. I don’t believe my generation particularly cares about which singer is gay or not. I think we have been TAUGHT that we SHOULD care for some obscure reason…but in reality…not so much. I’m proud to be part of a generation that sees music for all of its wonderfulness and supports its gay, bi, straight or other type performers for who they are: Entertainers.

I am here to perform. I am here to entertain.”

Duck Sauce
is producer A-Trak and DJ Armand Van Helden.
The pair produce disco house
tracks that  appeal to club DJs.

Duck Sauce released a track this  summer, titled  “Barbra Streisand“,
and their  song and video  BARBRA STREISAND  is OFFICIALLY out this week. The  song features many prominent and affiliated artists, such as Kanye West, Pharell Williams, DJ Premier, Chromeo, DJ Mehdi, So Me, and Fafi.

They teased crowds in Miami earlier this year!  “Barbra Streisand” continues to perfect the Duck Sauce sound, which joyously mashes classic disco house with forward-thinking dancefloor energy and expert production. A-Trak and AVH are bona fide DJ heroes whose team-ups are fueled by anything-goes samples, an almost childlike sense of fun, and 100% NYC attitude. This approach has made Duck Sauce fans-for-life out of partygoers around the globe, and will continue to convert anyone within earshot of “Barbra”‘s instantly addictive, whistling hook.

Duck Sauce  says, “I know this is long awaited… long long long awaited. People have been asking us about this release ever since Armand and I played the song at WMC and it popped up on youtube. Then came the fan-made cover versions and all types of stuff floating around on blogs.

Well now, in the words of the great Biz Markie… “All samples cleared.”
So it is with great pleasure that we can finally announce the release of this fun lil’ ditty.
The main release date is Oct 11th (UK, pre-order here) and 12th (North America). Same for South Africa.
Australia is getting early dibs on Sept 24.  Germany gets it a little later, Oct 29.
Most other countries will get filled in around the same time.

Now before you go anywhere, take a second and soak in that cover art, courtesy of my man Dust La Rock.
There is also a video dropping soon, sooner than you think.”

Police Officer Who Led Raid on Stonewall Inn Dies at 91

Seymour Pine is practically responsible for the gay rights movement!

He led the 1969 raid on the gay bar – the Stonewall Inn –  which sparked the modern gay rights movement. He died this month at 91.

Pine was a  deputy police inspector at the time and later apologized for the raid, according to his obituary in the New York Times.

The Times said:

“Although the ostensible reason for the raid was to crack down on prostitution and other organized-crime activities, it was common at the time for the police to raid gay bars and arrest cross-dressers and harass customers.

The club, on Christopher Street near Seventh Avenue South, was owned by members of the Mafia. Inspector Pine later said he conducted the raid on orders from superiors.”

The raid on Stonewall was the beginning of nights of rioting, with crowds in the thousands.

“The Stonewall uprising is the signal event in American gay and lesbian civil rights history because it transformed a small movement that existed prior to that night into a mass movement,” David Carter, author of  Stonewall: The Riots That Sparked the Gay Revolution (2004), said to the Times.

“There’s been a stereotype that Seymour Pine was a homophobe,”  Carter told the Times. “He had some of the typical hang-ups and preconceived ideas of the time, but I think he was strictly following orders, not personal prejudice against gay people.”
Seymour Pine is survived by his sons Daniel and Charles; a brother, Arnold; a sister, Connie Katz; and seven grandchildren. His wife of 45 years, the former Judith Handler, died in 1987.

NY Governor Paterson Signs Act To Protect Students

Charles Robbins, Executive Director of The Trevor Project, the nation’s leading organization focused on crisis intervention and suicide prevention for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, made the following statement in response to Governor David Paterson’s signing into law the inclusive Dignity for All Students Act in New York:

“Today, Governor Paterson signed into law an assurance of protection from bullying and harassment for all students, regardless of real or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and expression, and sex in publicly funded schools in New York.

The law would make New York one of more than 40 states with anti-bullying laws, 14 of which plus the District of Columbia provide inclusive protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression. When youth are threatened at school, or their property gets stolen at school, and they fight at school, the odds that they will attempt suicide more than double. Considering more than half of sexual minority youth in schools have been verbally harassed and one in ten is physically assaulted, the Dignity for All Students Act with the inclusion of gender identity and expression will be a giant step to reducing instances of self-harm and suicide that result from harassment by school peers.”

The Trevor Project is the leading national organization focused on crisis intervention and suicide prevention efforts among LGBTQ youth. Every day, The Trevor Project saves young lives through its free and confidential lifeline, in-school workshops, educational materials, online resources and advocacy. The organization was founded in 1998 by three filmmakers whose film, “Trevor,” a comedy/drama about a gay teenager who attempts suicide, received the 1994 Academy Award® for Best Short Film (Live Action). Real Housewives of NJ’s Teresa Spent $60K Shopping…After Filing Bankruptcy

When you file for bankruptcy,
you are supposed to turn over
your charge cards
and not use them.

Or they call that  FRAUD.

Although Teresa Giudice and her husband owe millions of dollars to other people, the Real Housewives of New Jersey diva went on a $60,000 shopping  spree — after filing for bankruptcy!

The reality TV star and her husband Joe — who owe various people  some $11 million — were in a Newark, N.J., court yesterday trying to stop a scheduled Aug. 22 auction selling off the contents of their Garden State mansion. It was during this appearance in front of a bankruptcy judge that it was revealed that Teresa went on a   spending spree days after asking the courts to wipe out their multimillion-dollar debt!

So what exactly did Teresa buy for $60,000? In addition $8,800 for curtains, she spent nearly $45,000 on wall decorations, tables, chairs and urns.  Yes, urns. I am sure they are  FABULOUS URNS! Um, Honey, have you seen that show  “Design on a dime?” You need a  good  gay  designer  girl. E-mail me !

Judge Morris Stern said in court, “These were not Ikea-purchased  items. These were from high-end design stores.” However, he also agreed to postpone the auction until Oct. 3.

Today, Teresa’s lawyer defended her, saying she was spending the advance she earned for her book, Skinny Italian: Eat It and Enjoy It Live La Bella Vita and Look Great, Too! . And because she earned the money after filing for bankruptcy last October, she was able to purchase whatever she wanted.

SOLOMON – Shades of Black and The Love Rocker Project

In case you have been under a rock lately….

Born a Capricorn in San Diego, CA, Electronic Hip-Pop recording artist Solomon (born Solomon Raymond Barnett) began performing in numerous dance troupes and church choirs, where he grew a strong affinity towards sound and music. In 2008, Solomon began recording music with fellow artist Robbery, making the Hip-Hop duo, The Black Market.

Shortly going solo, Solomon released his first mixtape, Rhyting Rhymes Vol. 1, 2008, as an openly gay musician. Sparking mass interest, Solomon was part of a huge introduction of new out Hip-Hop rappers. Garnishing him multiple magazine interviews, shows and a guest on Eminem’s Sirius Radio’s Uncut Channel Shade45. In August 2008, he released the follow-up of his first mixtape, titled respectively, Rhyting Rhymes Vol. 2. The second mixtape slowly introduced a more mainstream Pop sound, with his crossover single, “Feelin’ Brand New.” After promoting the mixtape and doing shows, Solomon began working on a new project entitled, “Shades of Black.”

“Shades of Black” is Solomon’s first attempt at songwriting and producing. Taking eleven months to create, it also marks his departure from underground Hip-Hop to a genre he likes to call, Electronic Hip-Pop (Electronic production, Pop lyrics and a touch of Hip-Hop style). “People think that there is only one shade to the color black. But actually there are several shades.” Solomon describes the title of the EP. “My listeners and audience- and critics have tried to box me into something and label me into what is only a small portion of me. This is my time to show everyone all my layers. All my shades.”

Fueled by a difficult breakup and an even harder depression, the lyrics of “Shades of Black” convey the heartache of an unrequited love. While the lyrics are heartbreaking, the Electronic production fools the audience into thinking it is simply dance music. “For some odd reason it was very difficult for me to write anything happy during the songwriting process of this release,” Solomon explains. “There are some musicians who can easily turn it on and off, but it was inevitable, all my songs were very somber. So I decided to produce the music more upbeat to trick the listeners into thinking they were listening to the latest dance music. Something fun.” Influenced by an era in history that is long gone, Solomon takes you on a journey through the end of the Disco era into the late 1980’s early 1990’s. Recruiting producers from Miami, Australia and France, each track is a mixture of worldwide sounds, melodic tempos and an electronic baseline you cannot ignore. All the songs off the 7 track EP are written by Solomon himself, and produced or co-produced by him as well.

Photographer Renie Saliba lensed this  new promotional image  in anticipation of his upcoming sophomore CD, “The Love Rocker Project,” out in July 2010!
