Air Travel Discounts if your Gay!

alaska-air-gay-travel-discount

Airlines offering discount flights to gay people!

An airline has infuriated Republicans – by offering to fly gay people to Pride events across the US for a discount.

Alaska Airlines – which carries the name of the state known more for being the home of anti-gay politician Sarah Palin than for inclusiveness – made the offer as part of an ‘LGBT travel’ stunt.

Though it doesn’t exclusively apply to LGBT people, the airline has discounted flights to Pride events in a number of cities across the US.

It offers flights at a discount to Pride events including LA, New Orleans and Boston – in a move that has infuriated conservatives in the country.

Alaska Air said: “At Alaska, we have been longtime supporters of the LGBT community and remain committed to a more equitable society. We were elated when the State of Washington expressed the same commitment by legalizing marriage for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

“To show our continued support we are encouraging the LGBT community to travel, not only to Seattle, but to Pride events and gay friendly destinations all over the country.

“With that aim, we have put together this section of our site to highlight destinations that support marriage equality, Pride celebrations, and other things of interest to the LGBT community.”

Some have decried it as “discrimination” in favour of LGBT people, with one right-wing blogger claiming: “The establishment campaign to promote disease-spreading and culture-corroding perversity has reached the point that Alaska Airlines now implies discounts for homosexuals.

Sweden Singing Sailor THIS WAY IF YOU ARE GAY

gay travel sweden russian submarines

Do weapons solve peace?

Ask the Singing Sailor!

Swedish “defense system” sends out “THIS WAY IF YOU ARE GAY” in Morse code, to combat Russian submarines!

Washington Post reports: Late last year, Swedish authorities were perturbed by ALLEGED signs that a foreign submarine had entered their waters.

Worse still, many suspected that these submarines were Russian. It was a worrying reminder of Cold War-era aggression and perhaps a signal of Moscow’s newly provocative stance.

Sweden is not a member of NATO and spends a relatively small amount on its military. How could it hope to deter the Russian navy on its own?  Increase  the war budget to  $1.9 BILLION  some  say.

The answer, according to one Swedish group, is simple: The Swedes must send out gay propaganda via Morse code.

On Monday, the Swedish Peace and Arbitration Society (SPAS), a group dedicated to the study and promotion of peace, released details of their plan in a video on their Web site.

Tom of Finland Stamps

tom of finland stamps

The legendary TOM OF FINLAND

now has his own stamps – but they are only available in Finland at the moment.

The late graphic artist Tom of Finland, born Touko Laaksonen,  has  become further cemented as an icon for his contributions to gay art and history thanks to a new a series of stamps. He is considered one of the most well-known Finnish artists around the world.

The work of Tom of Finland is both monumentally significant and long-standing.

“His emphatically masculine homoerotic drawings have attained iconic status in their genre and had an influence on, for instance, pop culture and fashion. In his works, Tom of Finland utilized the self-irony and humor typical of subcultures. During his career, Tom of Finland produced more than 3,500 drawings… The drawings on the stamp sheet represent strong and confident male figures typical of their designer.”

Here’s an interview with stamp’s designer Timo Berry in cooperation with the Tom of Finland Foundation‘s Finnish representative Susanna Luoto.

A petition demanding the stamp be called off has now launched, and has so far gathered over 2,000 signatures.

Gay Marriage Denmark Anniversary

gay marriage denmark

Gay Marriage in Denmark celebrates

25 years!

Twenty-five years ago the first same-sex couple was lawfully married under the Danish registered partnership law, the first of it kind and an inspiration for same-sex marriages, partnerships, civil unions and family laws in countries all over the world.

On the occasion of the ”Silver Anniversary”, an exhibition: ”Equal Love Silver Anniversary, Copenhagen 1989-2014” will be held September/October 2014 at the Copenhagen City Hall where the first couple said yes to each other 25 years ago.
In connection with the exhibition we want to collect wedding pictures and rainbow family photos from all over the world. To that end we hope that you will mention the Equal Love Silver Anniversary in your magazine so that your readers may send us their photos by uploading them to Twitter and hashtag them with #equallove25 or send them by mail to equallove@lgbt.dk – You can read more about the Equal Love – Silver Anniversary celebrations on www.lgbt.dk/equallove25.

We want to show everybody that it was not the end of the world when the first same-sex couple was married 25 years ago. Life goes on. For better. For worse. And for all, irrespective of sexual orientation and gender identity.

SPOT THE NAKED MAN!

Seriously? A Russian MP has demanded that a naked picture of Apollo on a banknote be removed, in case it turns children gay. – Are they kidding??

PINK NEWS   sez

Liberal Democratic Party MP Roman Khudyakov has written to the country’s Central Bank, calling for changes under the country’s ‘gay propaganda’ law to the 100 rouble note – worth about £1.70 – which features a statue of Apollo.

He said: “You can see clearly that Apollo is naked, you can see his genitalia.

“I submitted a parliamentary request and forwarded it directly to the head of the central bank asking for the banknote to be brought into line with the law protecting children and to remove this Apollo.”

Still just as dazzling and stunning  as she always has been.  The Grammy, Emmy and Oscar winner is  still a diva and icon!

I read that much of the “Dressed to Kill” tour is reminiscent of/taken from Cher’s residency show at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace that ran from May 2008 to February 2011 — the fabulous costumes, “The Beat Goes On, “Half Breed” and “Believe” — while “I Got You Babe,” the “Burlesque” numbers and “Woman’s World,” “Dressed to Kill,” “Take It Like a Man” and “I Hope You Find It” from “Closer to the Truth” are new and certainly high-energy and entertaining.

The set is gorgeous, and the costumes eye popping!

Putins Propaganda – Campaign of Hate in Russia

russia-campiagn-of-hate

RUSSIA is a very scary place right now.

As most of the world moves forward toward gay equality, Russia is seemingly heading backward. Antigay sentiment and legislation are spreading rapidly throughout the country.

In 2013, the Russian parliament passed a ban on so-called “gay propaganda” that effectively makes nearly any public discussion of gay equality a crime. The city of Moscow has outlawed Gay Pride parades for the next 100 years. Adoption of Russian children is forbidden to citizens of any foreign country that permits gay marriage. And legislation is now being considered that would permit the Russian government to remove gay people’s children from their homes.

russia hates gay people

The Kremlin has chosen the LGBT community as its scapegoat in a populist campaign against supposedly decadent “Western” values, and there are ominous signs of much worse to come. Violent attacks against Russian gays or suspected gays are more and more common. Videos of young LGBT people being taunted and tortured have been widely distributed on the Internet.

Those are the stories that get the headlines, but there is much more to the Russian LGBT men and woman I have met. It is my hope that this documentary will educate viewers to their reality.

Lance Bass, Marriage Equality and Mississippi Travel

lance bass mississippi gays

Mississippi-born Lance Bass sure has been in the news lately. Two weeks ago he attacked Mississippi’s anti-gay religious “freedom to discriminate” bill. Yesterday the former ‘N Sync boy band singer met at the White House with President Obama to talk health care reform. Today, a video he recorded with his fiancé for Freedom To Marry’s new push to win marriage for same-sex couples in the Southern states launched.

Bass says he grew up in a town of just 2000 people, and “it felt great” to feel like his neighbors were part of his extended family.

“We were best friends for about a month,” Bass says of his now-fiancé Michael Turchin. “I didn’t know that he liked me, and he didn’t know that I liked him… We just related on so many things, and I just knew that he was going to be part of my life. And I’m just glad it’s going to be as a husband,” Bass says, with a boyish smirk.

“Marriage to me is a commitment that you make to the person you love that you want to spend the rest of your life with,” Bass says, and talks about how his parents role-modeled marriage for him.

Bass believes that “people really do support gay marriage,” and “there’s tons of support” in Mississippi. He urges the younger generation, whom he says is scared, to talk about marriage equality openly with their parents.

“There’s nothing to be scared of,” Turchin says.

Take a look at Freedom To Marry’s website, Southerners for the Freedom to Marry.

HOWEVER…….

GetEQUAL Mississippi — a statewide grassroots social justice organization working toward the full equality of all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Mississippians — has issued a “travel alert” to any LGBT person planning travel to the the state. This alert has been issued based on the fact that Mississippi is on the cusp of passing Senate Bill 2681 — the so-called “Mississippi Religious Freedom Restoration Act” — through the House, and then sending it to the governor for signature or veto.

GetEQUAL Mississippi alerts those traveling to the state of a continued risk of discrimination based upon sexual orientation and/or gender identity. The State of Mississippi does not currently protect lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender (“LGBT”) people from being legally ejected from their hotel rooms or other places of public accommodation, and is on the cusp of passing legislation that would give business owners even more latitude to legally discriminate against minority groups.

Those who are required to travel to Mississippi are encouraged to take the following precautions:

– Avoid traveling alone in the state.

– Only book travel at hotels which have policies prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

– Visit only known LGBT-friendly establishments, including restaurants, bars and venues.

– Be aware of your surroundings and adopt other appropriate safety measures to protect yourself while traveling.

LGBT Youth in Jamaica Allowed to live in Sewers

jamaica-sewers-as-shelter-LGBT gay youth

How sad is this?

Around 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, police officers led by Cmdr. Christopher Murdock lowered a ladder into an open sewer in New Kingston, the Jamaican capital’s financial district. The sewer, damp and strewn with trash, flowed out of the business district housing several banks, large hotels, and shopping arcades. And it was home to a group of youths Murdock wanted gone.

Their alleged crime: stealing. Murdock said he had received more than 30 reports of theft and robbery since the group, ranging in age from teens to early twenties, had moved into the sewer several months before, and he was becoming concerned that the stretch of Trafalgar Road that runs over their makeshift home was becoming unsafe for people to walk.

But Murdock’s televised remarks following the Sunday raid left the impression the kids were unwanted for an entirely different reason: “The aim of this operation was to remove men of diverse sexual orientation who continue to plague the New Kingston area.”

FAST FORWARD  to today –

Jamaican police tried again last week to evict homeless LGBT youth from the sewers in New Kingston where they have been forced to take refuge.

The police have previously tried to burn the youth out of the gullies on the pretext that they attract criminals.

When the youths were brought before the court on Friday, March 7, the judge fined them for their so-called “calumnious language” but also advised the police that the sewers are a public space. Hence the youngsters have every right to be there. With no other options, the kids have simply returned to living in the sewers.

Dwayne’s House, a Jamaican organization established to feed and clothe the youngsters living in the sewers, paid the small fines for some of the arrested youth. See the Web page of Dwayne’s House for more information or to contribute (in the United States or in Canada).

So sad.

Ukraine Seeks Freedom – Please Share

ukraine-uprising-freedom

Ongoing protests known as the Euromaidan have been taking place in Ukraine, with protestors demanding an end to the Ukrainian dictatorship and closer integration with the European Union. This month, clashes between protestors and the government have steeply intensified, and yesterday at least 26 people were killed. The goverment is beating people, calling them “extremists”. All they want is freedom!

The Ukraine also wants to adopt Russia’s rules against  gay people.

We want to be free from the politicians who work only for themselves, who are ready to shoot, to beat, to injure people, just for saving their money, just for saving their houses, just to saving their power.

I want these people who are here, who have dignity, who are brave, I want them to lead a normal life. We are civilized people, but our government are barbarians. That’s not a soviet union. We want our courts not to be corrupted. We want to be free.

Fallout from Sochi Continues

sochi-gay-olympics-budweiser

COKE may still be at Sochi but Budwesier is saying a big NO to Sochi!

There’s no Bud for you, Sochi … TMZ Sports has learned Budweiser has decided to NOT throw its traditional Winter Olympics party this year and it’s all because the company is not comfortable with the situation in Russia.

In the past, Budweiser was known for hosting huge parties — like the Club Bud bashes during the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and at the 2006 Olympics in Turin.

In fact, we’ve seen an email from a Budweiser rep which says the company does not want its U.S.-based representatives in Sochi … and the message is clear — the terrorist threat is simply looming too large.

A rep for Anheuser-Busch confirms to TMZ Sports … there will be no Club Bud in Sochi — but the rep didn’t give a reason for why the company is not throwing the party.

MEANWHILE – Google shows their support!
Google has made clear its stance on the Russian anti-gay law marring the Sochi Olympic Games by giving its search page a rainbow makeover — and a link to the part of the Olympic charter that bans “discrimination of any kind.”

google-gay-sochi

And as the games begin, there’s even dissent from partners: AT&T was among the first sponsors of the US Olympic Committee to officially object to the laws (Chobani and DeVry University also spoke out), and now Google is showing their true colors as well — literally.

Google’s new front page Thursday, visible internationally and including Google.ru, shows athletes superimposed over a rainbow, a well-known symbol of gay pride. Below the search box is an excerpt from the official Olympic Charter.

Nikolai Alexeyev Has Final Meltdown

Russian gay activist Nikolai Alexeyev, who until now was considered
Russia’s top lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) advocate,
appears to have ended his political career tonight in a series of
anti-Semitic Facebook and Twitter posts that have even his most ardent
supporters calling out his ongoing anti-Semitism.

I’d reported earlier on Alexeyev’s anti-Semitic social media posts last week, and on his earlier run-in with charges of anti-Semitism.
Last week, in an apparent fit of ire against a (Jewish) man who penned
an op ed in OUT magazine critical of him, Alexeyev retweeted comments calling the author a “jewish pig” and “israeli monkey,” and calling OUT magazine a “jewish slut magazine that supports jews and their filthy faggotry propaganda.”  Alexeyev then tweeted and posted on Facebook his own comments about Jewish vodka being made from sperm.   More  at  America Blog

More Anti Gay Laws Could Come from Russia After the Olympics

 Remember
when people were giving dire warnings about the Nazi’s in Russia and no
one listened? According to Masha Gessen, renowned Moscow-based
journalist, and author of a critical biography of Vladimir Putin, a
bill has been tabled to remove children from the homes of Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) families in Russia. This bill is likely
to be passed after the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.

Russia has
come under serious criticism for passing an “Anti-gay propaganda” Law
which forbids anything to be said about the LGBT community to people
under the age of 18 years. The law also makes LGBT parades or gatherings
illegal.

Canadian Author Robert Joseph Greene has been
campaigning for the law to be repealed since his gay short fairytale
love story “The Blue Door” was used by Russian protesters. The short
story is from Greene’s book The Gay Icon Classics of the World II which
is a collection of gay love stories from different cultures. The story
is about a Tsar who proclaims that his three sons could marry anyone
they choose but he didn’t figure one of his sons would pick a man for
his life partner.

“The law has caused considerable alarm and
confusion for parents in Russia, “ says Greene “We found a website where
Russian mothers are voicing their concerns about the law”

Svitman.ua,
a Ukrainian based Russian website that features parenting articles,
recently published the full short story of “The Blue Door” for parents
to read. It is illegal to publish the short story on any Russian site.
Svitman has received over 87 comments from Russian parents but their
concerns weren’t about the story but about the new Russian law.

Based
upon the collective online comments from parents, the story was not
viewed as inappropriate. However, what was more alarming was that
Russian parents worry about  how the new Russian anti-gay propaganda law
would affect their families.

“Will I be arrested if my son or daughter turns out gay?” writes one mother’s comments.

With
Russia hosting the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, The new Russian “Anti-gay
Propaganda”  law has been criticized by Western politicians and human
rights groups, and has raised concerns that visiting gay athletes and
spectators could face discrimination or even legal action.

“This
is history repeating itself when the Nazi’s hosted the 1936 Olympic
Games,” says Greene “The IOC was silent when the  1936 German Olympic
committee wanted to ban jews and blacks from participating and the IOC
is virtually silent now and the situation is clearly deteriorating for
the LGBT community just as it was for jews back in 1936.”

Svitman link: http://svitmam.ua/user/vikad/posts/158212

From Huffington Post, one writer says the anti gay laws are a symbol of Russia’s decline…  The Soviet Union and all dreams of Russian empire have long faded.
The hopes and dreams of the Russian people are utterly defunct, and the
leading cause of death in Russia is reportedly drinking too much alcohol.

If we look at the Russian crisis of anti-gay laws, the rise of anti-gay fascist groups and the killing of political opponents,
it becomes very clear that Russia is on the verge of collapse. Putin
is also trying to revive Cold War tensions with the Snowden affair and
is bullying LGBT citizens as if this had any chance of resuscitating the
flaccid Russian economy. These are the symptoms of Russia’s sickly
infant, her dying democracy.

Skinheads in Russia Torture Gay Teens

 HOW SICK IS THIS?

Infamous Russian ultranationalist and former skin head, Maxim
Martsinkevich, known under the nickname “Cleaver” (or “Tesak” in
Russian) spearheaded a country wide campaign against LGBT teens using a
popular social network VK.com to lure unsuspected victims through
personal ads.
over 500 online groups have been created inside
VK.com social network in order to organize illegal militant groups in
every Russian city.
Oddly enough their idea of fighting pedophiles
targets exclusively male teenagers who respond to the same-sex personal
ads and show up for a date. Captured victims are bullied and often
tortured while being recorded on video.

Video recordings of bullying and
tortures are freely distributed on the Internet in order to out LGBT
teens to their respective schools, parents and friends. Many victims
were driven to suicides, the rest are deeply traumatized. So far Russian
police took no action against these “movements” even though Russian
criminal code was clearly violated and despite numerous complaints from
parents, victims and LGBT activists.  Social network VK.com
intermittently shuts down selected groups and profiles only to allow
them to be re-open on the next day. Currently, the founder of VK.com,
Pavel Durov, resides in the US and so far has not released any
comments.   read more

Stoli Vodka Faces American Boycott

STOLI could be in a little hot water. Some LGBT groups are already calling for a boycott of the upcoming Winter Olympics in Russia. Now, Vodka. Gay drink lots of Vodka! But Stoli has also been a supporter of the LGBT community…

Queer Nation has  organized  a boycott of Russian vodka.

From their statement:

In light of the Putin regime’s attacks on the LGBT community, Queer Nation is calling for a worldwide boycott of Russian vodka.

Do not buy or drink Russian vodka: Brands
include Russian Standard and Stolichnaya. Demand that bar owners do not
buy or serve Russian vodka. Ask your favorite club promoters, DJs, and
entertainers to insist that Russian brands are not served in the venues
in which they perform.

It’s time to target Russia. Dump Russian vodka!

Stoli has shown support to LGBT community in the past – is a boycott the answer, to send a message to Russian Government? At first, I wasn’t sure it was the right choice – but now I do – even though Stoli has shown support to the gay community, the Russian government still shares in Stoli’s profits. We MUST put pressure where we can, so they stop this madness over there!

Dan Savage, columnist, author, and founder of the It Gets Better Project, published an article in Seattle’s independent newspaper The Stranger on Wednesday titled
“Why I’m Boycotting Russian Vodka,” urging gay bars to stop serving the
brand and others like Russian Standard, Shustov, Starka, and Stolnaya.

“[T]here is something we can do right here, right now, in Seattle and
other U.S. cities to show our solidarity with Russian queers and their
allies,” wrote Savage on Wednesday. “And to help to draw international
attention to the persecution of gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, trans
people, and straight allies in Putin’s increasingly fascistic Russia:
DUMP RUSSIAN VODKA.”

The SPI Group, which owns Stolichnaya Vodka, contacted The Advocate
today to release an open letter to the LGBT community. The statement
stressed that Stoli “firmly opposes such attitude and actions” committed
by the Russian government and continues to be a “fervent supporter and
friend” of the community, pointing to past endorsements of Pride events
and LGBT organizations.

The statement claimed that the Luxembourg-based company is not
affiliated with the Russian government, and that the vodka’s production
is divided between Russia and Latvia.

Revolution for real Human Rights in Brazil Continues

From our dear friend  Alex Bernardes at Via G (Revistaviag.com) Magazine in Brazil :  Our Brazilian constitution states that this is a local country, therefore, anyone who is elected by the people and takes a political
chair, is not allowed to use his religious concepts and beliefs to
conduct or change people’s behavior. Unfortunately, that is true only in
the books.

Recently, a pastor called Marco Feliciano (Minister of an
Evangelical Church Franchise in Brazil), was elected by his peers –
people weren’t able to interfere in that process because it was done
undercover –, and, once taking charge as the president of the Human
Rights ‘Deputy’ Chamber, he started to promote intolerance,
discrimination, segregation towards some specific groups of doomed and
unluckily borned people (his words, based in the Old Testament).

He
mainly points to Negros and gays. Now, he wants to pass a bill which
allows the “cure for gays”, considering that “these people may want to
be healed and live a “normal” life”, and he threatens anyone who tries
to interfere or be in his way. Our state of freedom, equality and
fraternity is now going down the drain…

As you worldwide friends
may know, we are in the core of a revolution for real human rights in
Brazil, asking for more important things such as better public
educational, health and transportation systems. We really don’t need
this kind of people around us to blur people’s real interests. If you
are sympathetic to our manifestations, please “like” it and share.

Let
the world know about this shame…

Worlds Biggest Gay Bar in Las Vegas

Is there such a thing as TOO BIG??

Oh, get your mind out of the gutter. I am talking about nightclubs.

Soon
to become the world’s largest gay nightclub, Krave Massive will mark
its official grand opening in Las Vegas on Saturday, June 15, 2013, just
in time for summer vacation season.

“Krave
has become a ‘must attend’ attraction for members of the LGBT
community, both for locals and those visiting Las Vegas,” said Richard
Brower, director of LGBT marketing for Caesars Entertainment. “Our
commitment to our LGBT employees, guests and neighbors is strong,
including being the only casino company with a 100% on the Human Rights
Campaign Corporate Equality Index for six years running. We are
delighted to partner with Krave to continue bring exemplary LGBT
entertainment experiences to Las Vegas.”

The
enormous 80,000-square-foot venue will present party-goers with five
themed dance rooms,
each marked with its own individual design and
state-of-the-art sound system, LED lighting, high-tech laser equipment,
high output CO2 blasts and huge video walls. Are there enough gay and gay friendly people in Las Vegas to seriously fill a space this big??

It
will also feature three separate bars, a martini lounge, a members-only
VIP lounge, a gay comedy club, a performing arts theater, a retail
store, a multi-purpose
room, a lesbians-only dance lounge and Guest House Theaters, the
country’s only LGBT movie theater,
which will be run by leading film
production and distribution company Guest House Films.   Seriously??  I just can’t imagine the size of it all!

Much
like its sister club, Drink & Drag – the country’s first drag queen
bowling alley, which opened last May, Krave Massive is expected to also
become a major draw for downtown Las Vegas and will be opening on the
third level of Neonopolis (450 Fremont St.), neighbored by recent
tenants that include the Heart Attack Grill, Denny’s on Fremont,
Rockstar Tattoo and the recently announced Liberace Museum.
