Oklahoma Senator Hates Gays and Fighting the Matthew Shepard Act
WHY DO PEOPLE HAVE TO HATE?
Back in November Towleroad reported Senator Steve Russell was trying to fight the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act in Oklahoma.
Comparing homosexuality to necrophilia, Oklahoma State Sen. Steve Russell (R-Oklahoma City) plans to introduce a bill that would exempt the state from having to abide by the recently passed Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act on the basis of the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
In an amendment presented on the Senate floor Wednesday afternoon, Sen. Steve Russell, R-Oklahoma City, gutted a bill that had been filed to create a task force to study the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association, and inserted language to make changes to the state’s hate crime statutes.
Basically, his State would be exempt.
Isn’t that a kick in the nuts?
