West Hollywood’s Iconic ABBEY Gets New Owner
The owner of a West Hollywood LGBT institution is passing the torch to the next generation.
David Cooley sold The Abbey Food & Bar and The Chapel to Tristan Schukraft. The acquisition is the latest in Schukraft’s portfolio of LGBTQ+ businesses, including the beachfront Tryst Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico. And Puerto Vallarta.
“The Abbey is more than just a bar. It’s been a sanctuary for the LGBTQ+ community,” Cooley said in a statement. “The Abbey has been a place of happiness and acceptance for so many. Now, it’s time for someone new to lead. Tristan has been coming here for years. He gets what The Abbey means to people. I trust him to look after our community, our guests, and our team.”
Known in part for its iconic drag shows, Cooley founded The Abbey in 1991. It quickly became a hot spot in West Hollywood for celebrities, locals and tourists. Some of its accolades include being voted Time Out’s Best Gay Bar in Los Angeles and Zagat’s Most Popular Nightlife Destination.

Tom of Finland Red Wine
Tom of Finland Wines (tomoffinlandwines.com), a new label created in tribute to the legacy and artwork of Tom of Finland (Touko Laaksonen, Finnish, 1920-1991), popularly known as Tom of Finland, is pleased to announce its inaugural release – the 2015 OUTstanding RED. Following a successful launch in Finland in 2016, Tom of Finland Wines is making its US debut, with the wine available exclusively direct-to-consumer on the website for $24 per bottle.
Tom of Finland Wines is made in partnership with the Tom of Finland Foundation, a non-profit started in 1984 by TOM and Durk Dehner. Though the Foundation’s original purpose was to preserve TOM’s vast catalog of work, today the Foundation has greatly expanded its efforts and exists to educate the public as to the cultural merits of erotic art and the promotion of healthier, more tolerant attitudes towards sexuality through experiential workshops, residencies and exhibitions.
Terry Miller, Official Tom of Finland “TOM’s Man” and spokesman for Tom of Finland Wines comments on the project: “Tom is about pleasure and enjoying life. A part of enjoying life involves indulging your sensual side and appreciating the finer things… self-expression, openness and freedom – that’s why wine is the perfect manifestation in honor of the legendary artist. As for the wine, OUTstanding RED is remarkably smooth, delicious and sexy. Tom of Finland’s work is the most recognizable and important gay iconography in the world, and it both warms and excites me to see it presented front and center on the bottle of OUTstanding RED.”
Tom of Finland Wines will host an official launch party for media, trade, and consumers on December 14th in at The Oasis in San Francisco. Guests can expect a meet-and-greet and photo opportunity with Terry Miller, and of course, plenty of OUTstanding RED. Additional details to be published at a later date. LGBT Addiction Resources – Quit Alcohol
As a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) individual, you are faced with many unnecessary challenges. One of which is related to receiving treatment for a drug or alcohol addiction. You may not feel comfortable seeking treatment through traditional means, which can have a negative impact on the progress you make.
Drug abuse and addiction continue to present challenges for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. There is not much research available regarding actual statistics and data, but it is believed that the rate of substance abuse is higher within the LGBT community than the general population.
The Gay GAYME – Drinking and Fun
A gay boy, a kickstarter campaign and an idea! Last year Matt Sauve had an idea for an innovative party game for gays and allies that will have you laughing, drinking, and doing random yoga poses.
The Gayme is an innovative party game that consolidates the gay lifestyle and coming-of-age experience into hundreds of stimulating cards. The best part is anyone can play! LGBT or ally, it doesn’t matter.
There are 500 unique cards, each crafted to promote bonding, story-telling, and maybe a bit of intoxication. Unlike traditional games, The Gayme changes each time you play. You can play with 2 players or 20, it’s versatile. You can play in your kitchen, in your bed, at your mom’s house, in a bar: all you need is a surface, drinks, and people!
Created by Matt Sauve ( 3rd guy to the right in picture), 2-20 players can play and a game runs around 60-90 minutes.
- All players have a beverage
- Each player takes a turn picking a card, reading it out loud, & doing what it says
- Most cards are normal All Play without a title, meaning anytime that a card applies to you, you play.
- All Play cards with a title include: Question, Categories, Storytime
- Individual & Rule cards refer to the person reading the card
- Trivia cards are for the person sitting directly across from you
Matt invented The Gayme in 2012 when he discovered a lack of “social lubrication” at a party he was hosting. Originally hand-written on colored notecards, The Gayme’s popularity at college parties encouraged Matt to start his own company. He spends his spare time entertaining his friends and constantly conjuring new Gayme cards. Each card has been carefully crafted to promote bonding, story-telling, and laughter.
It’s clever, cute and fun! ORDER today for $25!

Will Gays Boycott Coors? Again?
Most of you may be too young, but in the late 70’s the LGBT Community called for a boycott of Coors, that lasted for years!
While BOTH actor Gary Sinise, and FOX News Anchor Bret Baier, have cancelled, Pete Coors, the Chairman of the Molson Coors Brewing Company along with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and NYC Archbishop Timothy Dolan, are still planning to headlining the annual conference of the Catholic Legatus organization that harbors very hateful views on gays, supports “gay conversion” therapy and calls same-sex attraction a ‘disorder’.
The Coors family still supports extreme right wing anti-gay groups and politicians to this day through their foundations and individual Coors family members who profit from the brewery. Coors wants lesbians and gay men to buy their beer so they can use the profits to fund right wing attacks on our civil rights.
Beneficiaries of the Coors’ largesse include: The Heritage Foundatio. The Center for the Study of Popular Culture, David Horowitz’ far right wing group. Horowitz has written demagogically, blaming gay men for the spread of AIDS and The Council for National Policy, a group of far right wing anti-gay bigots include and have included Pat Robertson, Phyllis Schlaffly, Jerry Falwell, Oliver North, Gary Bauer, Ralph Reed, Ed Meese, Lon Mabon and Sen. Jesse Helms.
History of the facts.

Stoli Vodka Faces American Boycott
STOLI could be in a little hot water. Some LGBT groups are already calling for a boycott of the upcoming Winter Olympics in Russia. Now, Vodka. Gay drink lots of Vodka! But Stoli has also been a supporter of the LGBT community…
Queer Nation has organized a boycott of Russian vodka.
From their statement:
In light of the Putin regime’s attacks on the LGBT community, Queer Nation is calling for a worldwide boycott of Russian vodka.
Do not buy or drink Russian vodka: Brands
include Russian Standard and Stolichnaya. Demand that bar owners do not
buy or serve Russian vodka. Ask your favorite club promoters, DJs, and
entertainers to insist that Russian brands are not served in the venues
in which they perform.
It’s time to target Russia. Dump Russian vodka!
Stoli has shown support to LGBT community in the past – is a boycott the answer, to send a message to Russian Government? At first, I wasn’t sure it was the right choice – but now I do – even though Stoli has shown support to the gay community, the Russian government still shares in Stoli’s profits. We MUST put pressure where we can, so they stop this madness over there!
Dan Savage, columnist, author, and founder of the It Gets Better Project, published an article in Seattle’s independent newspaper The Stranger on Wednesday titled
“Why I’m Boycotting Russian Vodka,” urging gay bars to stop serving the
brand and others like Russian Standard, Shustov, Starka, and Stolnaya.
“[T]here is something we can do right here, right now, in Seattle and
other U.S. cities to show our solidarity with Russian queers and their
allies,” wrote Savage on Wednesday. “And to help to draw international
attention to the persecution of gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, trans
people, and straight allies in Putin’s increasingly fascistic Russia:
DUMP RUSSIAN VODKA.”
The SPI Group, which owns Stolichnaya Vodka, contacted The Advocate
today to release an open letter to the LGBT community. The statement
stressed that Stoli “firmly opposes such attitude and actions” committed
by the Russian government and continues to be a “fervent supporter and
friend” of the community, pointing to past endorsements of Pride events
and LGBT organizations.
The statement claimed that the Luxembourg-based company is not
affiliated with the Russian government, and that the vodka’s production
is divided between Russia and Latvia.

Worlds Biggest Gay Bar in Las Vegas
Is there such a thing as TOO BIG??
Soon
to become the world’s largest gay nightclub, Krave Massive will mark
its official grand opening in Las Vegas on Saturday, June 15, 2013, just
in time for summer vacation season.
“Krave
has become a ‘must attend’ attraction for members of the LGBT
community, both for locals and those visiting Las Vegas,” said Richard
Brower, director of LGBT marketing for Caesars Entertainment. “Our
commitment to our LGBT employees, guests and neighbors is strong,
including being the only casino company with a 100% on the Human Rights
Campaign Corporate Equality Index for six years running. We are
delighted to partner with Krave to continue bring exemplary LGBT
entertainment experiences to Las Vegas.”
The
enormous 80,000-square-foot venue will present party-goers with five
themed dance rooms, each marked with its own individual design and
state-of-the-art sound system, LED lighting, high-tech laser equipment,
high output CO2 blasts and huge video walls. Are there enough gay and gay friendly people in Las Vegas to seriously fill a space this big??
It
will also feature three separate bars, a martini lounge, a members-only
VIP lounge, a gay comedy club, a performing arts theater, a retail
store, a multi-purpose
room, a lesbians-only dance lounge and Guest House Theaters, the
country’s only LGBT movie theater, which will be run by leading film
production and distribution company Guest House Films. Seriously?? I just can’t imagine the size of it all!
Much
like its sister club, Drink & Drag – the country’s first drag queen
bowling alley, which opened last May, Krave Massive is expected to also
become a major draw for downtown Las Vegas and will be opening on the
third level of Neonopolis (450 Fremont St.), neighbored by recent
tenants that include the Heart Attack Grill, Denny’s on Fremont,
Rockstar Tattoo and the recently announced Liberace Museum.

Andy Warhol and Dom Perignon – The Perfect Holiday Gift
EVERYONE
keeps asking what I want for Christmas –
and that I AM SO HARD TO BUY FOR!
Sound familiar?!
Well look no further –
Limited edition DOM PERIGNON bottles created in tribute to the great American artist, Andy Warhol.
Sure, his iconic works may have been signified by more mundane items like Campbell’s soup cans, but that hasn’t stopped this top-tier bubbly from paying homage to Warhol. Upholding their intense focus to detail, the famous Champagne house commissioned the Design Laboratory at Central Saint Martin’s School of Art & Design to reinterpret their iconic bottle.
The bottle is almost black in color, and the shield-shaped label comes in distinctly pop art red, blue, or yellow, paying homage to Andy’s flare. The box is a work of art unto itself with shadows and reflection taking on vivid color like a tableau of Marilyn Monroes.
The end result is three unique collector bottles that feature bright label colors loved by Warhol in his work.
Supplies will be limited and are expected to arrive at wine shops around the us THIS MONTH! About $199.
