NETTA YERUSHALMY PRESENTS THE LIVESTREAM PREMIERE OF HER

EPIC WORK PARAMODERNITIES.

THE SIX-PART ENCYCLOPEDIC SERIES DECONSTRUCTS HISTORIC DANCE WORKS BY ALVIN AILEY, GEORGE BALANCHINE, MERCE CUNNINGHAM, BOB FOSSE, MARTHA GRAHAM, AND VASLAV NIJINSKY.

EACH PERFORMANCE IS FOLLOWED BY A LIVE DISCUSSION WITH SPECIAL GUESTS AND AN INTERACTIVE CHAT WITH THE AUDIENCE.

MAY 4-9, 2020   @    3-4PM DAILY

*Closed-Captioning provided for all performances.*

Trailer linked here.

“Take six classic dances. Chop them up. Then tear open the modern canon, with equal parts love and fury.” – Gia Kourlas, The New York Times

Netta Yerusalmy to present the week-long livestream event of Paramodernities Live, May 4-9, 2020, featuring 2019 performances at New York Live Arts with live “post-show” discussions with special guests and a chat feature for the audience. This event is directed by Jeremy Jacob and produced by Marc Crousillat, Jacob, and Yerushalmy.

The six-part encyclopedic series is a multidisciplinary work that weaves theory and performance into a marathon-style hybrid event. Yerushalmy and a cast of 20 dancers and scholars, ranging in age from 20 to 68, perform deconstructed installments of Vaslav Nijinsky’s Le Sacre du Printemps (1913), Martha Graham’s Night Journey (1947), Alvin Ailey’s Revelations (1960), a mix of Merce Cunningham works Rainforest, Sounddance, Points in Space, Beach Birds, and Ocean (1968-1990), dance numbers from the Bob Fosse’s 1969 film Sweet Charity, and a response to George Balanchine’s Agon (1957) that includes none of the original choreography.

Paramodernities boasts a radical and undefinable rethinking of the canon, involving virtually no music. Each section was created as an independent unit with a distinct creative process that features text, read live, by scholars and writers from various fields who place the dances within a larger context. The cast joins Yerushalmy in generating questions about the different paths taken by the modern tradition in dance and beyond. Within each installment, fundamental tenets of modernism are explored, such as sovereignty, spectacle, race, feminism and ableism.

The performances at New York Live Arts theater feature dancers Michael Blake, Gerald Casel, Marc Crousillat, Brittany Engel-Adams, Joyce Edwards, Stanley Gambucci, Taryn Griggs, Magdalena Jarkowiec, Nicholas Leichter, Jeremy Jae Neal, Hsiao-Jou Tang, Megan Williams, Netta Yerushalmy; and scholars/writers Thomas F. DeFrantz, Julia Foulkes, Georgina Kleege, David Kishik, Carol Ockman, Mara Mills, Claudia La Rocco, with lighting by Tim Cryan and costumes by Jarkowiec.

Each livestream performance will feature closed-captioning for the deaf and hard of hearing community.

Livestream events of Paramodernities take place at nettay.com from May 4th to May 9th at 3pm. This event will be live and free. The running time is approximately 1 hour.

North Carolina and Mississippi Boycott Continues

west side story gay north carlina

It is truly amazing that SO MANY companies  have stood up  to North Carolina and Mississippi in recent weeks!

The rights holders of the musicals West Side Story and Footloose have quietly withdrawn permission for their musicals to be done in the states of North Carolina and Mississippi, apparently in reaction to laws passed in those states that discriminate against LGBT individuals.

Wicked ’s Stephen Schwartz Hopes Banning Shows from North Carolina Will Turn Anger Into Activism

Similarly, the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization announced that the rights holders of the musical Footloose had also withdrawn permission for their show, described as one of the most popular in the R&H catalogue, to be done in the two states. They issued this statement:
To the residents of North Carolina and Mississippi:

In light of the recent passage in your states of heinous and discriminatory laws that severely curtails the rights of many minorities, the creators of “Footloose” are suspending the issuance of any license to present or produce their work until such time as the legislature and governor reverse their decision.

Among arts groups, Cirque du Soleil canceled engagements in North Carolina after the state passed HB2, a “religious freedom” bill that allows individuals and businesses to deny services to LGBT individuals based on personal religious beliefs.

Upcoming performances of Ovo in Greensboro (April 20-24) and Charlotte (July 6-10), as well as Toruk – Avatar in Raleigh (June 22-26), have all been canceled in the wake of the legislation.  “Cirque du Soleil strongly believes in diversity and equality for every individual and is opposed to discrimination in any form. The new HB2 legislation passed in North Carolina is an important regression to ensuring human rights for all. We therefore choose to cancel our scheduled performances.”

CHER – Fifty Years of Music

cher 50 years music gay icons

Over the weekend, Billboard shared their very in-depth interview with Cher who has officially spent 50 years on the Billboard charts.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Cher’s debut on Billboard’s charts, Billboard spoke to the woman herself. In their lengthy chat, they talked about her frustration of doing “poppy” songs in the early 1970s, how David Geffen “wasn’t that interested” in her musical comeback in the 1980s (on his own label!), and how an act of “desperation” led to the famed vocoder sound of “Believe.”

Cher also talks about her “hope” of heading back on tour, and her tentative plans of recording new music.

London born, Brooklyn based singer and songwriter, Aaron Paul has returned bigger and stronger than ever with his 1st solo album after leaving the Worlds Apart boy pop group. World Apart had a unprecedented chart run of over (5) top 30 UK singles including: ‘Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel’, (recently featured on the soundtrack in the huge blockbuster and academy award winning movie “The Queen“), ‘Everlasting Love’, ‘Wonderful World‘ (written by Aaron Paul & fellow band member Patric Osbourne), and their biggest hit ‘Could it be I’m Falling in Love‘, and many more.

Aaron Paul came to the attention of Arista Records Executive Simon Cowell (American Idol, Britain’s Got Talent and X-Factor) impressed by his incredible pure voice, natural performance skills and fun personality, Simon positioned Aaron as lead vocalist/front man and lead the group to their chart success.

After moving to New York City and taking a career break from the music industry. In 2010 Aaron was persuaded by Grammy winning producer Barry “Oh” Goldstein to return to recording. Where they both wrote together and released the pop funk song ‘Shake Your Body‘ and ‘Searching‘ (featured on the compilation “There’s an Angel Watching You”). Aaron began his journey as a driven solo artist and then frequently returned back to the UK for live promotional tours.

Fast forward to 2014, the year that became a life-changing time for Aaron.  With a new sound and new team, set out to fulfill a life-long dream, preparing for the release of his debut solo album.   The album entitled “RAW” introduced Aaron to an entire new audience and allowed those already familiar with his sound to fall in love all over again.  The “RAW” album in its entirety was written by Aaron Paul and includes productions from some of today’s hottest upcoming Producers in the game, Robby Dwayne (Day26, Crystal Waters) among others.  Collectively, they have skillfully combined Aaron’s heritage and musical roots to create a fun, personal and socially conscious album.

Gay CinderFella with Idol’s Todrick Hall

It’s Time! Legalize Love!
is the theme for this summer!

Following the viral success of “Beauty and the Beat,” Todrick Hall — self-proclaimed
“Broadway performer, ‘American Idol’ finalist, Singer, Dancer,
‘Glee’-wannabe and YouTuber” — has just released another musical Disney
Parody, “CinderFella.”

Hall brings “Cinderella” up to date, mixing iconic Disney tunes with
pop songs like Katy Perry’s “Firework” and Chris Brown’s “Turn Up The
Music,” and features celebrities, such as Janice Dickinson, Shangela and
Willam from “Rupaul’s Drag Race,” Lance Bass and Daniel Franzese, in
classic fairy tale roles.

Best of all, the pro-gay music video breaks the unshakably straight
Disney tradition: Jasmine hits the dance floor with Alice, and Prince
Charming has a happily-ever-after with CinderFella. As Hall writes,
“This story speaks volumes and I think that love is as classic as this
fairy tale. It’s time for us to legalize love in all shapes and colors.”

Lots of stars make cameos!  Janice Dickinson, Willam Belli,  Shangela, Glozell, Kimberly Cole, uber sexy  Steven Dehler, Sam Garfield, Tyler Brockington, sexy Aubrey O’Day,  and Lance Bass as Prince charming!!

Todrick says, “I wanted to tell this famous fairy tale in a new and innovative way, combining familiar top 40’s songs with classic Disney melodies. This story speaks volumes and I think that love is as classic as this fairy tale. It’s time for us to legalize love in all shapes and colors.
Please support this movement by posting this on your social media sites. “

OXD Occupy The Disco with David Morales

(OXD), a New York City based movement, was  created by three music lovers, Ru Bhatt, Josh Appelbaum, and Tadeu Magalhães.

MISSION  OXD:

It was through music and nightlife that gay people in New York City,
for decades, changed concepts, gained supporters, and helped others be
happy with who they are all over the world. Our music re-shaped the mainstream, pushed boundaries, united our community, and made room for the future.

Mainstream music has now adopted much of our sound. Nightclub
promoters and DJs are pushed to only give us that which is familiar,
that which is safe. As such, many members of our community have lost the
ability to question, to experience the unknown. We must uphold our
legacy as cultural leaders in society and continue to evolve.

Our goal is simple: to re-unite the gay community in NYC through
music. To create rich and fun experiences. To dance. To feel free. To
move beyond what’s familiar. To reclaim our role as tastemakers. We want
to go further than what we already know and be surprised with new,
exciting music. And we will work to bring this back.

This is our call: Occupy The Disco.

There are now parties happening in NY which you can find on their blog –
see also OCCUPY THE DISCO on FACEBOOK

PLUS , WATCH THE VIDEO by Grammy award-winning producer and DJ David Morales  with former Moloko chanteuse and Irish disco diva, Róisín Murphy. Morales is
famous for his days DJing at Paradise Garage, Stereo and Ministry of
Sound, as well as his remixes of pop songs from the likes of Mariah Carey, Kylie Minogue, and more. Creating a veritable “dream team” of sorts, Murphy’s vocals smoothly complement Morales’ robust production. The song’s lyrics (and video)
elicit images of times past; mourning the end of many different “golden
eras”, while leaving it open to the listener to interpret which era is
in question. While we think the original is great, we prefer this remix
as Morales finishes it off with his signature disco beat.

Gay Twins James and Nick Aragon are the Ninja Twins

Even though SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE has an age cut off 30 years old, the 32 year old Aragon Twins got their 15 minutes of fame!

They call themselves the Ninja Twins and were on this weeks SYTYCC auditions in Los Angeles. And these guys are destined for some sort of fame.

Nick, the guy who puts the “Ni” in “ninja,” and his identical partner in
crime, “James” (he’s the “ja”), came to the “SYTYCD” auditions
flaunting their “A-list lifestyle on a B-list budget” and basically
acting like the Jedward
of “SYTYCD.”

Nigel I think then had the
brilliant idea to pitch a “Ninjas With Attitude” pilot to Fox’s Mike
Darnell.

 (Nigel’s recent tweet
indicates the latter! Yay!) Surprisingly, the Ninjas weren’t bad
dancers…but at age 32, they were two years over the “SYTYCD” age limit
(Nigel hadn’t believed them when they claimed to be 728-year-old
vampires), so they were disqualified. (“We’re old, but we ain’t dead,
dang!” they protested.) Nigel didn’t change the rules, sadly, but he did
tell them, “You have made this show for me right now.” Now he just has
to make a whole new show, all about the Ninja Twins. Do it, Nigel!

Chippendales is SO GAY. We Love Them

Jaymes Vaughan, a singer and dancer with the infamous Chippendales male revue recently came out in the pages of QVegas magazine. Making him the 2nd out gay dancer from the show.

What?!? Chippendales has singers? Of course they do – these are your Grandma’s Chippendales!

Most of you don’t remember the original Chippendales. In 1979  Chippendales was the first all-male stripping troupe to make a business
performing for mostly female audiences. Through the quality of its
staging and choreography, Chippendales also helped legitimize stripping
as a form of popular entertainment.

Now, they live on in Las Vegas. The Chippendales perform in a ten-million dollar theater and lounge built specifically for them at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Annually, the official men of Chippendales are seen by almost two million people worldwide. Men ARE ALLOWED into see the show these days.

Back to Jaymes, who does double duty at Rio.

“My nights start at 6:00pm and I don’t stop until 12:30am. I
start Show In The Sky, run up to Chippendales in time for my first song,
run back to Show In The Sky for my next number there, and so it goes
each night. There is a four minute break where I run to Burger King,
they give me my chicken sandwich and I run back in time to sing my next
song.”

Vaughan has also released a new single, “Vampire,” and recorded the
accompanying music video. He says he’s always loved the Dracula types,
even as a kid, but that the song is really about being in a
situation where you can’t be yourself; where you can’t live a part of
your life in the daylight; being in a relationship that I can’t share
with my family.

WATCH THE VIDEO on his site.

Coming out wasn’t like facing the harsh light of day: Vaughan was
already out to his family and friends—and even hosted Las Vegas Pride in
2011. This is more a case of coming out publicly as one of the few
openly gay entertainers on the Strip.

“I hope to be able to
take advantage of a platform so that my fourteen-year-old self that was
sitting in Chesterfield County, Virginia, might find some hope. The
fourteen year old that had no one to look up to; whose mama told him he
better not be gay; whose church told him he was going to hell; whose
best friend killed himself because he didn’t “fit in.” Because he didn’t
have any hope. I thought for so long you had to cover up who you were
to be successful. I’ve realized you can be more successful by being
yourself.

IN 2008-  Instinct magazine’s annual swim suit issue  cover  features Chippendales’ first openly gay dancer, Brandon
Pereyda
,  talked about how most Chippendales guys are mistakenly
pegged as being gay.

“I guess it is monumental for this company,” Pereyda notes. “Chippendales
guys are often pegged as being gay. And they’re not. And I think this
will clear the slate.”

He continues, “They’re all straight, but we would
do anything for each other and that’s what I really love about working
here. They don’t view my be gay as a negative thing at all.”

On a sidenote – Chippendales in Vegas
has already reached out to muscle hottie Kris Humphries, hoping to fill their empty
celebrity MC spot at the Rio — previously occupied by ex-98 Degrees
singer Jeff Timmons.

PROMOMO is the new MySpace for Artists Around the World

There are a couple amazing artists (and hotties)
I have discovered through MySpace and Facebook.
David PEREIRA  is one and Eike von Stuckenbrok  is another, I just love!!

Today I discovered a new site, PROMOMO.
Promomo is a platform for artists to PROMOte them selfs.
And for agents/producers to scout their perfect candidate for a new shows.

  • Promomo is a fastest growing art community in the world!

  • As an artist you can promote yourself internationally

  •  and meet the agents and producers from around the globe.

  • As an agent/producer you can search for the artist you really need for your next project.

  • And as a spectator you can sit back, relax and enjoy watching clips of the artists

After few months of being down due to system overload they are finally back.
This time stronger then ever.

So what’s new in this version?

1.Full HD. Now you can upload your videos in HD format.
2.New state of the art video player.
3.Much more channels.
4. in 24 languages.

Very soon they  will launch a new product PROMOMO/DANCE dedicated to dancers,
PROMOMO/SPORT for athletes and PROMOMO/MUSIC for musicians!!!

They  are working around the clock to make this service
your only site to watch, book, scout and promote circus oriented acts.

It’s free to sign up and easy to use for everyone !!!!

Erik Eike von Stuckenbrok – Fabulous Gymnast from Berlin at Chamäleon in SOAP SHOW

RUB-A-DUB-DUB….
hot  young men in a tub!

I first came across  Erik (Eike) von Stuckenbrok about a year or so ago. I had read he was performing at Chamaleon in Berlin . The show was SOAP SHOW.
The VIDEO ON YouTube is AMAZING! What this hot young gymnast does with a pole, a bar soap and a bathtub, gives me chills! It is quite stunning!

You can also see the MADE IN BERLIN  clip which played in Berlin this past summer.   And then to DOUBLE YOUR FUN, you have to watch Rèmi Martin  Eike  work out the double pole act in GOP Varieté Hannover – Orangerie – Bilder einer Ausstellung – Pictures at an Exhibition 2009.

This 6 minute video  would have been so much better if the guys were shirtless! But nonetheless,  very entertaining. He leaps around like Spiderman and I think we will see A LOT of EIKE in the very near future. His career is really just beginning!

His site  Hand Balance  has a little info about him.
(It was not working today…)

But also LIKE him on Facebook

and  the  You Tube Videos !

Cirque du Soleil and Michael Jackson in 2011

The magic of Cirque du Soleil
and the genius of the King of Pop
will be combined in the creation,
development, and production of
Michael Jackson projects based
on the music and songs of Michael Jackson.

An arena-touring show is expected to debut in late Fall 2011 and a Las Vegas permanent show is expected to open in late 2012.

Special lifestyle projects, including a nightclub to open with the Las Vegas show, will also be developed.

The first of these projects will be an arena-touring show in which fans will experience the excitement of a Michael Jackson concert, expected to debut in late Fall 2011. That arena show is anticipated to enjoy an extended run in Las Vegas in conjunction with longtime Cirque du Soleil partner MGM MIRAGE.

The Las Vegas permanent show, also in partnership with MGM MIRAGE, is expected to open in late 2012. MGM MIRAGE will announce the location and plans for the permanent theatrical venue at a later date.

Guy Laliberté, Founder of Cirque du Soleil, commented, “Michael Jackson is the King of Pop and an all-time phenomenal artist, both timeless and contemporary. As a creative challenge, this project is the ultimate. Through the use of cutting edge technology, we will produce a Cirque du Soleil experience not only worthy of Michael but unlike any other we have created before. We are also so pleased that our longtime partner MGM MIRAGE has once again joined us in presenting another unique creative experience in Las Vegas. ”

Katherine Jackson, mother of Michael Jackson commented. “Our family is thrilled that Cirque du Soleil will pay tribute to my son in such an important way.”

The Estate of Michael Jackson and Cirque du Soleil will each own 50 percent of each Michael Jackson project, sharing equally in the cost of creating, developing, building and producing the projects and in the profits from each project.  The Estate of Michael Jackson will also receive royalty payments on various aspects of its intellectual property used in the Michael Jackson projects.

Fierce Gay Men Fight and Vogue at The Welfare Office in Chicago

FIERCENESS IS
ALWAYS WELCOME!

Where am I?
New York City?

No darling, you are in Chicago at the Welfare Office. A brawl broke out downtown and ended with a fierce attempt at Vouging!

Security guards were helpless to stop them.

Shocked onlookers began clearing the way as the two wielded chairs as weapons and used the floor space like a boxing ring as they engaged in a nearly minute-long battle.

But horrified gasps turned into bursts of laughter when the apparent winner of the fight began voguing to celebrate his victory. He even danced his way out of the building and blew kisses to the onlookers!
