Siegfried and Roy on the Big Screen…Liberace on the Small Screen

Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace Movie With Michael Douglas and Matt Damon Heads to HBO.  The previously untitled Liberace movie with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon has now been titled  ‘Behind the Candelabra’ and will start
production next month.

“From the inception of this project, we’ve had two priorities: getting
it right creatively, and getting as many people as possible to see it,”
Soderbergh said in a statement.

Produced by legendary Hollywood mogul Jerry Weintraub (‘Ocean’s Eleven’)
and Gregory Jacobs (‘Contagion’), ‘Behind the Candelabra’ tells the
story of the “tempestuous relationship” between famed singer Liberace
(Douglas) and Scott Thorson (Damon), his younger lover.

“I’ve wanted to make a film about Liberace for a very long time, and
after the amazing experience I had with HBO on ‘His Way,’ I knew that
they were absolutely the right place for this movie,” Weintraub, who was
the subject of ‘His Way,’ said in a statement. “I am thrilled that we
have the incomparable Michael Douglas to inhabit the role of Liberace,
as well as the exceptional Matt Damon to play the pivotal part of Scott
Thorson. Putting these two fine actors in the creative hands of Steven
Soderbergh — it doesn’t get better than that!”

With his flowing blonde hair,
plunging maroon velvet jumpsuit and gold medallions, Steve Carell looked
every inch a show magician as he shot scenes for his latest movie in
Las Vegas this week.

The
49-year-old actor was worlds away from his usual appearance as he filmed
scenes for highly-anticipated comedy Burt Wonderstone alongside Steve
Buscemi and Olivia Wilde.

With his eccentric outfit, it looks like something from  world-famous Vegas magicians Siegfried and Roys closet.

The movie IS NOT about S&R, but  does  tell the story of Vegas
illusionist Wonderstone who reunites with his former magic partner Anton
Lovecraft (Buscemi) as he decides to take on a rival street magician
Steve Haines, played by Jim Carrey.

Watch for it in 2013.
