Boys Scouts Could Soon End Gay Ban
WOW! Finally! The Boy Scouts are finally caving to pressure, to change their ways!

USA TODAY.
If this policy shift is approved by the national board meeting next
week, it will be a sharp reversal of the Scouts’ decades’ old national
policy banning homosexuals.
“The policy change under discussion
would allow the religious, civic or educational organizations that
oversee and deliver Scouting to determine how to address this issue,”
BSA spokesman Deron Smith said in a statement to USA TODAY.

Anti Gay News from RUSSIA
Russis is not a fun place to be gay right now!
Church would make it illegal nationwide to provide minors with
information that is defined as “propaganda of sodomy, lesbianism,
bisexuality and transgenderism.” It includes a ban on holding public
events that promote gay rights. St. Petersburg and a number of other
Russian cities already have similar laws on their books.
The bill is part of an effort to promote traditional Russian values as
opposed to Western liberalism, which the Kremlin and church see as
corrupting Russian youth and by extension contributing to a wave of
protest against President Vladimir Putin’s rule.
The move has been met mostly with either indifference
or open enthusiasm by average Russians. Levada polls conducted last year
show that almost two thirds of Russians find homosexuality “morally
unacceptable and worth condemning.” About half are against gay rallies
and same-sex marriage; almost a third think homosexuality is the result
of “a sickness or a psychological trauma,” the Levada surveys show.
Russia’s widespread hostility to homosexuality is shared by the political and religious elite.

legislation that would impose the death penalty for homosexual activity. Lively author, attorney and activist, noted for his opposition to LGBT rights and his involvement in the ex-gay movement.
The New York Times reported:
The lawsuit alleges that beginning in 2002, Mr. Lively
conspired with religious and political leaders in Uganda to whip up
anti-gay hysteria with warnings that homosexuals would sodomize African
children and corrupt their culture. The Ugandan legislature considered a
bill in 2009, proposed by one of Mr. Lively’s Ugandan contacts, that
would have imposed the death sentence for homosexual behavior. That bill
was at first withdrawn after an outcry from the United States and

revised bill was reintroduced last month.
Mr. Lively is being sued by the organization Sexual

the persecution, arrest, torture and murder of homosexuals in Uganda.

Straight Christian Timothy Kurek Walks in Gay Shoes for 1 Year
Timothy Kurek’s motivation to spend a year pretending to be gay can be boiled down to a simple conviction: it takes drastic change to alter deeply held religious beliefs.
He was quickly disgusted by his own feelings, more pious than humane.
In fact, Kurek was so disgusted by his response to his friend that he
decided to do something drastic. Living in Nashville, Tennessee, he
would pretend to be gay for a year. The experiment began on the first
day of 2009; Kurek came out to his family, got a job as a barista at a
gay café and enlisted the help of a friend to act as his boyfriend in
public.
The experience – which stopped short of Kurek getting physically
intimate with other men – is documented in Kurek’s recent book “The Cross in the Closet
” which has received international attention, landed
him on ABC’s “The View” and elicited some biting criticism.
BRAINWASHING OUR CHILDREN –
For years, Kurek says, the only life he had was “his church life.” Being an evangelical Christian was his identity.
He was home-schooled until seventh grade, almost all of his friends
were from church and his social life was a nightly string of faith-based
events, from church sports to a Christian Cub Scout troop. “It was the
only thing I was used to doing,” said Kurek, who attended Liberty
University, the largest evangelical university in the world, before
dropping out after freshman year.
Kurek grew up in an “independent Baptist church.” “We were
evangelical,” he said, “but we were more conservative than evangelical,
too.”
His churchy lifestyle led to some deeply held views about
homosexuality. Most evangelical churches condemn homosexuality as
sinful. Many rail against certain gay rights, like gay marriage.
It’s no surprise that the “The Cross in the Closet,” has spurred strong reaction, especially from the LGBT community.
“I feel for the gay community of Nashville, and for every person who
trusted Kurek enough to flirt with him, hang out with him, and confide
in him about their lives,” wrote Amy Lieberman on the blog Feministing. “If I were in that community, I would feel so betrayed right now.”
In a Huffington Post blog post titled “Pretending To Be Gay Isn’t The Answer,”
Emily Timbol, a religion blogger, expressed a similar opinion: “What’s
sad is that every interaction Timothy had during his year pretending was
fake.”
But we are missing the bigger picture here! Kurek says that that was not his aim. “This isn’t a book about
being gay, I could not write that book, I am not qualified,” he writes.
“What this is about is the label of gay and how that label affected me
personally.”
Throughout the book, Kurek emphasizes that distinction. While much of
“The Cross in the Closet” is about the struggle to understand the gay
community, which he tries to address by enlisting a friend to act as his
boyfriend, much of it addresses how his former church’s community – and
family – reacted to his new lifestyle.
As for his original goal, to radically change who he was, Kurek says
mission accomplished. He says he has conquered his prejudices of the
LGBT community and is happy with the person he has become.
“If anybody had told me back then who I would be or what I would
believe now,” Kurek said, “I would have thought they were completely
insane.”
For example, Kurek now thinks homosexuality is completely acceptable.

What if You are Born into a Mormon Family…AND GAY?!
WHAT A GREAT MOVIE!
I just watched the preview version of THE FALLS! Awesome acting and a wonderful story about breaking away from your family wants for you – and following your heart!
Breaking Glass Pictures is proud to announce the December 4 DVD release of The Falls
(SRP $24.99, about $18 at Amazon). Reminiscent of The Seminarian and Latter Days, The Falls
is the story of two young Mormon men beginning to question just what it
means to be faithful to God while being true to themselves. Ultimately,
it illuminates one basic truth: that love is not a sin.
R.J. and Chris were born and raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. Now known as Elder Smith (Nick Ferrucci) and Elder Merrill (Benjamin Farmer), both have
pretty girlfriends, were Eagle Scouts, and have perfect academic
records. Now, it’s their turn to serve a mission and experience the
Mormon rite of passage.
RJ travels to a small town in Oregon with Elder Merrill to serve their
mission and teach the words of Joseph Smith. Living together and sharing
the challenge of leaving home, the two men help each other discover
their strengths. They share a passion for their faith and learn to
express their feelings, risking the only community they have for a
forbidden intimacy.
Unknown to them, serving a mission will not only open the doors to
strangers’ households – where they preach the Gospel and experience
point of views they never expected – but it will open up secrets in
their own lives – and feelings that they’ve long kept buried.
The Falls captures the lives of two young men struggling to make
sense of the conflict between their worlds, their desires, and each
other. What they ultimately discover is a challenge to them both, but
also an affirmation of the human spirit.
The Falls
has played at the Mix Mexico International Film
Festival, Outview, the Vancouver Queer Film Fest, and is scheduled to
play Seattle Gay and Lesbian Film Fest, Rochester Gay and Lesbian Film
Festival, Tampa Gay and Lesbian Festival, and Atlanta Gay and Lesbian
Festival before its DVD debut.
“Director Jon Garcia has crafted a quiet, intimate film that truly
expresses the love, desire and conflict between the two talented leads. The Falls
is an amazing, assured debut film,” said Richard Ross, Breaking Glass Co-President.
The DVD release will come complete with an exclusive behind-the-scenes
featurette showcasing the director and stars in their creative process
during the making of The Falls.

Ann Coulter Tweets Parents Should Disown Gay Children
(GLAAD), which noted that Coulter’s “joke” added “to the idea that
family rejection of LGBT young people is expected, or even ‘normal.'”
GLAAD reacts:
I recognize that this is a joke, and that
she is not really taken seriously in any context anyway, but with this
coming right after National Coming Out Day, at the start of Ally Week
and just days before Spirit Day, I thought this would be a good
opportunity to talk about this idea of hers. There was a time in our
culture’s history when, if thousands of LGBT kids were to come out on
the same day, the next week genuinely would be exactly what Ann
describes, all across the country. Fathers disowning their sons and
kicking them out onto the street. Mothers locking up their daughters or
sending them to charm school. Children forced to undergo electro-shock
or even worse forms of “therapy” to rid themselves of their orientation.
To learn how to not be true to themselves.
And although we’ve come a long way from
those ideas as a cultural collective, I have no doubt that last week,
more than a few American households experienced the tragedy that Ann
joked about. Approximately 50% of LGBT youth experience some degree of
family rejection. There are as many as 100 thousand homeless LGBT youth
on our nation’s streets, and it’s estimated that LGBT youth make up as
much as 40% of our nation’s homeless youth population. LGBT youth who
are completely rejected by their parents are more than 8 times as likely
to have attempted suicide. Pretty funny, right?
Again, I know it’s a joke, but ANYTHING that adds to the idea that
family rejection of LGBT young people is expected, or even “normal”
enough to be casually joked about, causes harm. The kind of harm that
Spirit Day was specifically created to protect against.
So this week we’ll let the rest of America stand up for those young
people. With Spirit Day on Friday, I thought it would be a nice thought
to list some of the corporations and individuals who will be standing up
against Ann Coulter’s idea, and showing their support for LGBT youth
this week by going purple:
Facebook, the NBA, Major League Soccer, Times Square, the New York
Stock Exchange, the hosts of ‘Good Morning America,’ ‘The Talk,’ ‘E!
News,’ ‘Chelsea Lately,’ Dianna Agron, Sir Ian McKellen, Fun.,
Bernadette Peters, the cast of Days of Our Lives, Joel McHale, Cesar
Milan, the Duke Energy Tower, Toyota Financial Services, AMC
Entertainment, NBCUniversal, Nielsen, Omnicom Group, American Apparel,
AT&T, PepsiCo, American Airlines, Thomson Reuters, Warner Bros.
Not to mention the millions of everyday people across North America
who will be participating, and standing up in support of every LGBT
young person, including – and especially – those who came out last week.
Like I said, I’ve never taken Ann Coulter seriously, and I’m certainly
not going to start now. But the idea of family rejection is one that
does deserve serious attention as a society. Go purple on Friday, not
just to show LGBT young people that you support them, but to show Ann
Coulter what you stand for.
Will Obama and Romney Wear Purple Oct. 19th?
Spirit Day: Go Purple on October 19 for #SpiritDay
Join Spirit Day Ambassador Katy Butler and tell the Presidential
candidates to join millions by wearing purple on #SpiritDay to stand
against bullying and support LGBT youth!
Last year on Spirit Day I was so excited to see Ellen DeGeneres and
Oprah Winfrey wear purple on TV, see photos of Times Square lights in
purple and feel supported by my friends on Facebook who changed their
profile pictures to purple, and of course the students at my school who
wore purple in support.
Last year millions of people told LGBT kids they are not alone – just
by wearing purple. And who better to send that message than the two
candidates trying to be the leader of our country?
From Katy’s new Change.org petition:
If both of these influential men participate by simply wearing purple it
will show LGBT teens like me that there are powerful people who care
about us. I know what it’s like to feel alone, and seeing two of our
country’s political leaders show that they care about our lives could
make a huge difference to. LGBT students, who are 3-5 times more likely
to experience depression and attempt suicide than their counter parts.
Barack Obama and Mitt Romney could take a big step towards ending that
feeling of isolation.

people, and limited state protections, corporate America has taken the
lead on fair workplace policies. That sentence might make one say,
“Thank goodness for corporations,” but the truth is that it also puts a
burden on the LGBT consumer. We must seek out and support businesses that treat LGBT employees and their families with dignity and respect.
But how do we do that when businesses don’t post their employment
policies in their windows, and even if they did, who wants to read a
manual before walking into a store?

Republican State Platform Contains Antigay Bias
Republican State Platform
Contains Antigay Bias
By Shaun Knittel
Contributing Writer
The Republican Party will continue to endorse the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)
and a federal constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. No surprises there. Most LGBT
Americans are very well aware of the fact that GOP candidates campaign with the view that traditional
marriage is between one man and one woman.
On August 28, the Republican Party released its state platforms and its planks haven’t been well- received by LGBT Americans because it contains antigay bias and going so far as to say the advancement of LGBT rights “is an assault on the foundations of our society.”
The plank on social issues (Tony Perkins of the anti-gay Family Research Council claims to have written the planks) targets the Obama administration for supporting LGBT rights in a number or arenas. “The current Administration’s open defiance of this constitutional principle— in its handling of immigration cases, in federal personnel benefits, in allowing a same-sex marriage at a military base, and in refusing to defend DOMA in the courts — makes a mockery of the President’s inaugural oath,” it states.
Directly addressing courtroom fights over the constitutionality of marriage equality the plank
states, “This is more than a matter of warring legal concepts and ideals. It is an assault on the
foundations of our society, challenging the institution which, for thousands of years in virtually every civilization, has been entrusted with the rearing of children and the transmission of cultural values.”
According to the Advocate, “Nearly half of the 2012 Republican state platforms are now available online, offering the public cross-country access to the party’s political stances and their corresponding rationale. Apart from Washington, D.C., which has amended its platform to call for equal rights regardless of sexual orientation, nearly every state platform rigidly defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Other exceptions include the platforms of Indiana and Wisconsin, which refrain from addressing the issue of marriage altogether.”
Many platforms offer rationales for their opposition to same-sex marriage.
The California platform, for example, adopts the “history and tradition” argument, asserting, “The family is a foundation upon which American society has grown and prospered for over 200 years. We support the two-parent family as the best environment for raising children, and therefore believe it is important to define marriage as being between one man and one woman.”
Other state platforms adopt a religious defense.
The Advocate reports Arkansas, Oregon, and Texas specifically mention God or “divine” ordinance as a reason to oppose same-sex unions. Whereas most states file their beliefs under a “Family” or “Marriage” heading, Texas devotes an entire section to the subject of “Homosexuality” that expands its justifications to include majority rule:
“We affirm that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society and contributes to the breakdown of the family unit. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans. Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable ‘alternative’ lifestyle, in public policy, nor should ‘family’ be redefined to include homosexual ‘couples.’”
Other topics of GOP planks that generally annoyed Americans were rape, abortion, call for an audit of the Federal Reserve, add a constitutional amendment requiring the vote of a supermajority of Congress to raise taxes (except in times of war or national emergency), and turning Medicaid into a block grant to the states shifting Medicare to premium-support model, in which seniors in the future are given a subsidy with which to purchase a private health insurance plan.
BrideGroom Will be a Movie by Linda Bloodworth Thomason
We blogged about this young man several months ago. Then Linda Bloodwoth Thomason heard his story and wanted to make a movie to share it with the world, as a wake up call. A Kickstarter campaign was started trying to raise $300,000. They raised $380,000! So the movie WILL BE MADE!!
BRIDEGROOM, will tell the emotional journey of Shane Bitney Crone and Tom Bridegroom, two young men in a loving and committed relationship – a relationship that was cut tragically short by a misstep off the side of a roof. The story of what happened after this accidental death– of how people without the legal protections of marriage can find themselves completely shut out and ostracized– is poignant, enraging and opens a window onto the issue of marriage equality like no speech or lecture ever will.
The YouTube video was shared widely on social media sites and posted by
prominent celebrities, including: Neil Patrick Harris, Sara Gilbert,
Fran Dresher, Denise Richards and Piers Morgan. The video also grabbed
the attention of Designing Women creator and Man from Hope
director, Linda Bloodworth Thomason, who contacted Shane to bring his
and Tom’s story to the large screen. Shane and Tom’s story resonated
strongly with Bloodworth Thomason. “The prejudice and bigotry that Shane
and Tom experienced was not unlike what I witnessed in 1986 when my
mother died of transfused AIDS,” she said. To date the video has more
than 3,000,000 views.
PLEASE SHARE THE VIDEO.

So now the company is trying to say they will leave the gay marriage debate alone. I am sure they will, As they continue to donate money to the anti gay marriage cause!
So PLEASE. DO NOT EAT THERE!
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis – Same Love feat. Mary Lambert
Ben Haggerty, better known by his stage name Macklemore, is an American rapper. Macklemore works with Ryan Lewis (Producer).
He has been described as a socially conscious rapper, with many of his songs addressing issues surrounding consumerism, race, sexual orientation and drug addiction. Macklemore is set to release his new album this year, as stated in an XXL interview.
Last week, he talked about his new song, SAME LOVE.
“This song, which I wrote in April, is a response to what I have observed
and experienced, and is also an act of personal accountability. It was
not easy to write, and I struggled with how I, as a straight male, could
genuinely speak upon this issue.
Initially, I tried writing from
the perspective of a gay, bullied kid, but after getting some feedback,
I felt it wasn’t my story to tell. What I do know, and where I wrote
from, is my own perspective growing up in a culture where “that’s gay”
was commonplace, with a huge stigma on those who identified and were
perceived as gay.
Growing up in the Catholic Church, I saw
first-hand how easily religion became a platform for hate and prejudice.
Those who “believed” were excused from their own judgments, bypassing
the stark issue of basic civil rights.
But, more influential to me as a kid than the church was hip hop, my cultural foundation that influenced my worldview.
Unfortunately,
intolerance of the gay community in hip hop is widespread. The best
rappers will use homophobic language on albums that critics rave about,
making hip hop and homophobia inextricably linked. We have sidestepped
the issue entirely, become numb to the language that we use, and are
increasingly blinded to our own prejudice.
The consequence and
impact of what we say, and the culture of shame and abuse it creates,
has very real, sometimes deadly impacts upon LGBTQ young people looking
for acceptance and belonging.
As somebody that believes in equal rights for all humans, you can only watch poison regurgitated for so long.
I
am not saying that intolerance is exclusive to hip hop. Hip hop culture
is a part of American culture, and America can be scared, fearful, and
prejudiced against its own. My intent is not to scrutinize or single out
hip hop. It happens to be the culture that has profoundly shaped me,
and the one I feel most accountable to.
Hip hop is influential to
young people, and frames the mindset of the generation that will decide
how inclusive and accepting we are.
More than anything, I am
aware of how comfortable I (and many other straight people) have become
in staying silent on this issue. If we choose to not speak on an issue
of injustice out of fear, or how our peers might perceive us, we’re part
of the problem. We know the truth, and vainly refuse to uphold it, when
people’s lives are caught in the balance.
In the last couple of
months, amazing things have happened that show progress and
accountability to ensure that the LGBTQ community has the same rights
and respect as everyone else. THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES came
out in support of gay marriage. Jay-Z, arguably the biggest rapper in
the world, then followed. Finally, Frank Ocean felt comfortable enough
with himself to share his sexuality in his music and came out last
week. That is courage.
This song is a humble submission to help
bring this conversation to the surface, so that we can reflect on the
language we use, and how powerful it can be. Rethinking, and
understanding the gravity of how we communicate with each other. Change
happens when dialogue happens. When we confront our prejudice and are
honest with ourselves, there is room for growth, and there is room for
justice.
After I wrote this song, I played it for a friend of mine who
happened to be involved with the Music for Marriage Equality campaign,
uniting musicians to help Washington state become the very first to
approve marriage equality by a public vote in November.
My hope
is that my personal testimony can help in some way to not only advance
the dialogue and approve Referendum 74, but also to help shape a culture
of belonging in which ALL people are equal.
– Macklemore
“If you have come here to help me, you are
wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound
up with mine, then let us work together.” – Lilla Watson
*Also, huge shout out to the incredibly talented Mary Lambert. Such a blessing to work with her on this song.

Legalize Love Campaign FREE Bumper Stickers
Frustrated
by the right-wing backlash against the President’s historic support for
gay marriage – and fearful of its impact in giving Romney an edge – gay
Obama 2012 supporters have launched LegalizeLove.com
to generate visible support for the President’s pro-equality stance.
The viral video campaign website’s goal is to distribute 100,000 free
bumper stickers that read “Legalize Love” with the “O” being the iconic
Obama symbol before the election. Free stickers are being offered on a
first-come first-served basis at LegalizeLove.com.
To promote the giveaway the website has produced an emotional viral
video spot that features moving Obama speech excerpts about gay rights,
edited so he is speaking in unison with lesbian and gay couples from all
walks of life. The couples are dressed in wedding dresses and tuxedos
and the video is black and white creating a wedding portrait feel to
bring home the joy of couples in love and the sadness of how gay couples
are excluded from marriage rights.
“The President is sticking up for our families and our free “Legalize Love”
Obama bumper stickers are our way of literally ‘sticking up’ for him in
this tight election.” said Eduardo Cisneros who co-directed the viral
spot with his boyfriend Luke Montgomery. “The LegalizeLove.com website
and campaign video are our way of saying ‘I do’ to his re-election. It’s
all about bumpers for Barack.”
In addition to rallying support for the cause on Facebook, Twitter and
Tumblr for the free stickers, the website plans to hold “Legalize Love”
rallies around the country. Events are being planned at the Republican
and Democratic conventions to both show support for the President’s
position and place gentle public pressure on him to take concrete action
in his second term.
With a goal of giving away 100,000 bumper stickers for free, the website is
donating the first 10,000 and inviting the public to participate in
helping fundraise for the rest. T-shirts reading “Legalize Love” are
being offered on the site starting at $9.99 with each shirt helping pay
for 5 more free bumper stickers being printed and mailed to people who
sign-up at LegalizeLove.com. The campaign store also has wristbands,
tank tops, hoodies, yard signs and buttons to help get the word out and
show support for this grassroots movement.
Videoco-director Luke Montgomery (from FCKH8) adds, “A Romney win in November would be a huge loss for equal marriage rights. This is our time, our chance to
join together and make a difference. We hope people are inspired to
share the video and ‘marry’ this cause at LegalizeLove.com.”
