Male Model Singer Quentin Elias Has Massive Heart Attack

quentin_elias

Sadly, model, actor, singer QUENTIN ELIAS died yesterday of a massive heart attack. He may have been 33 – or 39, no one knew for sure. The official press release will come today – many people speculate steroids were the cause – Quentin always said he  never ever did any drugs.

Strangely, the last song he recorded in October, Why Did You Leave Me Now, Why Did You Die, will become his own swan song.

Elias has modeled for several fashion designers such as Armani and Jean Paul Gaultier.

He relocated to New York in 2002 and released the single “Always the Last to Say Goodbye”. He also performed at local gay venues and events such as Splash Bar, and Tom of Finland events.

Besides performing some original songs, Elias has recorded some covers, like Madonna’s song “Holiday”, and “Shattered Dreams” by British pop group Johnny Hates Jazz. Continuing to perform and record, Elias released a maxi single “Serve It Up” in 2005 and a solo album “What If I?”

In September 2005, he started his own corporation Quentin Elias Music, Inc.. As a return to the French public after years in the States, he engaged in a comeback tour in 2011 and 2012, that included dates various European francophone venues under the title “Quentin Elias (Re Invented)” promoting his new release and remakes of old hits.

A year later he returned with the Justify 2013 Tour.  Here is our tribute to him….more at the end…

Barneys Has Bruce Weber Turn His Lense to Transgender for Upcoming Catalog

I am really surprised this has not happened sooner. New York Times reports, Arin Andrews and Katie Hill (left photo) do not look out of place in the new Barneys
New York campaign.

Both have nonexistent hips, are right in the ballpark
of six feet tall and aren’t yet old enough for a legal drink. But
there’s one marked difference between them and the models you ordinarily
see on runways and in the pages of Vogue and Elle: Mr. Andrews, 17, was
born a girl, and Ms. Hill, 19, a boy.

They are just two of nearly 20 transgender models photographed by Bruce
Weber who will appear in the new Barneys catalog and magazine campaign,
wearing clothes from designers like Ann Demeulemeester, Balenciaga,
Lanvin and Manolo Blahnik.

World AIDS Day and Margo Manhattan

  December 1st marks the
25th observance of World AIDS Day.
This year’s theme is fittingly “Shared Responsibility:
Strengthening results for an AIDS-free generation.”  More than 1.1 million people are
infected with HIV in the United States and 20% more may be infected without
knowing it. An
interactive map
details reported diagnoses across
the country according to race, economics, gender and age.  STD testing, prevention and education is
key in the fight against this epidemic.

In the 90’s Margo Manhattan created the universally recognized red
ribbon lapel pin for AIDS awareness. This furthered Margo’s reputation
as a visionary, socially aware and iconic jewelry designer. Margo’s
sleek, versatile designs are elegant with an edge, captivating and sexy.
Her passion for inventiveness and signature “of the moment we live in”
comes through eloquently in every aspect of her jewelry. Visit
the new Margo Manhattan boutique on 88th and Madison and explore her
collections or commission a special piece for you or your loved ones.

New Kind of Scouts Accepts EVERYONE

YEA for  Brooklyn dad Todd Schweikert!

The Boy Scouts is an antiquated sinking ship losing funding left and right! So Todd wanted to look for an alternative.
  DNA Info reports:

Schweikert, a 33-year-old Windsor Terrace
resident whose son goes to P.S. 154, researched several alternative
scouting options, including groups like Camp Fire. He settled on the
Baden-Powell Service Association to be the parent organization of his
troop. Like other traditional scouting groups, BPSA teaches “woodcraft,”
or how to survive outdoors. BPSA troops also use what’s called the
“patrol method” to divide scouts into teams that each have a leader
nominated by other scouts.

BPSA troops are open to both boys and
girls, and unlike the Boy Scouts of America, there is less talk of God
and religion
in official scouting laws, Schweikert said. The troop
welcomes kids as young as 5 years old, who are known as Otters. At age
8, scouts graduate to Timberwolves.

His 7-year-old son is a charter member of the 5th Brooklyn Scouts,
which accepts boys, girls and all sexual orientations while believing
that prejudice is best snuffed out like an untended campfire.

“The tipping point was the BSA’s approach to gay scouts and the gay
and lesbian parents,” Schweikert wrote in an email to The Huffington
Post. Any form of discrimination, no matter how small, is never ok and
not something I can endorse and wish to teach to my children.

Schweikert told HuffPost that he has received a “great response from gay and lesbian parents, as well as straight.”

Schweikert’s troop, to be called the
Fifth Brooklyn Scouts, will meet weekly at the Brooklyn Society for
Ethical Culture on Prospect Park West. The location is well-positioned
for excursions to Prospect Park for “nature observation,” but scouts
will also embark on overnight camping trips and weekend hikes. The troop
will learn classic scouting skills like knot-tying and community
service projects, and they’ll earn badges after they accomplish specific
goals.

David Beckhams Underwear at H&M

Frankly, I have seen David Beckham look better. Mind you, I would not kick him out of bed for eating crackers – I just think he has looked better.

That said, the father-of-four shows off his toned physique, as well as his many tattoos, in the pictures that were shot in L.A. by photographer Alasdair McLellan.

Posting the pictures on his Facebook
page this morning, Beckham wrote: ‘Hey everyone, here are a few shots
from my new Bodywear range for H&M. Hope you like them.’

Fans responded in their thousands by
‘liking’ the pictures and commenting on how ‘hot’ and ‘handsome’ the
star looks with his moustache and quiff hair do. –  again, not a fan of that daddy look! Just sayin!

The L.A. Galaxy player joined joined
forces with H&M to design a range of underwear for men in February,
following in the footsteps of his fashion designer wife, Victoria.

In a statement he said: ‘I am so
excited about this new campaign for David Beckham Bodywear at H&M. I
wanted to express the strength and quality of the David Beckham
Bodywear collection with these images and also the wearability and fit.

‘I love the range and feel so comfortable in each of the pieces. It has become second nature for me to wear it!’

In addition to his new campaign, nine 10-foot statues of the soccer star
will be placed throughout New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

OXD Occupy The Disco with David Morales

(OXD), a New York City based movement, was  created by three music lovers, Ru Bhatt, Josh Appelbaum, and Tadeu Magalhães.

MISSION  OXD:

It was through music and nightlife that gay people in New York City,
for decades, changed concepts, gained supporters, and helped others be
happy with who they are all over the world. Our music re-shaped the mainstream, pushed boundaries, united our community, and made room for the future.

Mainstream music has now adopted much of our sound. Nightclub
promoters and DJs are pushed to only give us that which is familiar,
that which is safe. As such, many members of our community have lost the
ability to question, to experience the unknown. We must uphold our
legacy as cultural leaders in society and continue to evolve.

Our goal is simple: to re-unite the gay community in NYC through
music. To create rich and fun experiences. To dance. To feel free. To
move beyond what’s familiar. To reclaim our role as tastemakers. We want
to go further than what we already know and be surprised with new,
exciting music. And we will work to bring this back.

This is our call: Occupy The Disco.

There are now parties happening in NY which you can find on their blog –
see also OCCUPY THE DISCO on FACEBOOK

PLUS , WATCH THE VIDEO by Grammy award-winning producer and DJ David Morales  with former Moloko chanteuse and Irish disco diva, Róisín Murphy. Morales is
famous for his days DJing at Paradise Garage, Stereo and Ministry of
Sound, as well as his remixes of pop songs from the likes of Mariah Carey, Kylie Minogue, and more. Creating a veritable “dream team” of sorts, Murphy’s vocals smoothly complement Morales’ robust production. The song’s lyrics (and video)
elicit images of times past; mourning the end of many different “golden
eras”, while leaving it open to the listener to interpret which era is
in question. While we think the original is great, we prefer this remix
as Morales finishes it off with his signature disco beat.

released on iTunes – and soon a  new CD!

Rainbow Flag Creator Gilbert Baker Joins NYU Chick-Fil-A Protest

The Gothamist reported Yesterday a small but committed group of NYU students were joined by Gilbert Baker,
the designer of the rainbow flag which has come to symbolize LGBT
culture and equality, for a protest against chicken corporation
Chick-Fil-A. Organized by student Hillary Dworkoski, protesters—some
dressed as chickens—marched in front of the university carrying signs
saying “Eat more equality,” and “Don’t feed us hate.”

In case you’re still in the dark about how a delicious chicken
sandwich came to cause such an uproar, Dworkoski explains, “Chick-Fil-A,
in 2009 alone, through their tax records, it shows that they donated
two million dollars through their charitable arm, WinShape, to anti-gay
groups including Focus on the Family, Family Research Council, Exodus International. Exodus International, for example, tries to cure gay people through ex-gay therapy.
Family Research Council is one of the groups that spread lies about gay
people, they say that pedophilia is a homosexual problem.”

While only one Chick-Fil-A exists in New York City (on the NYU
campus), that is one too many for gay rights activists. In January,
Dworkoski started her change.org petition
to drive out the homophobic chain. Three months later, she has almost
13,000 signatures. While other vendors can be banned from campus for
human rights violations, John Sexton (President, NYU) and the Student
Senators Council maintain that this is a political issue, and they can’t
get involved, “I guess they just don’t see that gay rights are human
rights,” says Dworkoski.

Dworkoski has been fighting this cause for a while
and is running for a spot as Senator so that she can be on the Student
Senators Council next year and pursue Chick-Fil-A through student
government. “Even if Chick-Fil-A is never banned from campus, at least
we’re raising awareness about it and that’s 13,000 more people that
aren’t eating Chick-Fil-A,” Dworkoski said. And over at Gawker
today, GOOD magazine editor Cord Jefferson brings the hammer down on all those who continue to give Chick-Fil-A their business.

First Ever LGBT Art Museum in New York City MoGLA

First & Only Museum of Gay & Lesbian Art Launches

Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art in New York City

Receives Museum Accreditation

from State of New York

Even well after the cultural wars of the mid 1980’s, the representation of sexual difference in art has been aggressively policed. And America’s museums, with few notable exceptions, have been silent in the face of what is now the most vocal contemporary civil rights frontier. But there has never been a shortage of gay and lesbian art on display in America’s museums; what has been lacking is the courage to articulate that fact and to illustrate how the artist’s sexuality influenced his/her art.   Now, for the first time, a new museum in New York will finally show what has been hiding in plain sight.  With the recent accreditation by the State of New York as an official Museum, the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art (MoGLA) has become the first and only museum of gay and lesbian art in the world.

Charles Leslie and his late partner Fritz Lohman – who organized their first small exhibition of gay art the same year as the Stonewall riots in 1969 – founded the new Museum with their multi-million dollar gift.   It is now run by a Board of Directors, helmed by Prof.  Jonathan David Katz, the co-curator of the recent Hide/Seek – the first major museum exhibit to focus on themes of gender and sexuality in modern American portraiture.  The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art focuses on gender and sexuality, in the still relatively unexplored historical, socio-political and cultural context in which these gay and lesbian artists lived.

“While until recently, queer art exhibitions assumed an audience of mostly queer visitors, a new generation of queer cultural institutions instead seeks to make queer art visible to a mainstream audience. If we learned anything from the record setting attendance of Hide/Seek it was that people of all stripes were hungry for precisely the information the big museums have been censoring for decades now,” said Katz.

The museum has announced an aggressive programming schedule for  the Fall of 2012, featuring the first major American retrospective of transgender photographer Del LaGrace Volcano.  (http://www.dellagracevolcano.com/index.html). Widely exhibited in European museums, the American- born Volcano has been almost completely ignored in this country, and represents, according to Katz, “exactly the rationale for this new museum.”  This fall will also see a major exhibit of legendary American artist Paul Thek’s early work in the context of his gay social circle of the fifties and sixties, and will include many works never exhibited before. While there was an exhibit of Paul Thek’s work at the Whitney Museum in 2010-11, these early works were not shown. “This will be the first exhibition of Thek ever mounted that reveals how powerfully his gayness structured his early work,” said Katz.

(There will be a separate announcement about these shows coming later.).

The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art has a permanent collection of more than 6,000 objects spanning more than three centuries of gay and lesbian art.  The new museum will mount historical, thematic, and survey exhibitions drawn not only from its permanent collection but also from museums and private collections around the world.   Its programs include 6-8 major exhibitions a year, film screenings, plays, poetry readings, artist and curator talks, panel discussions, THE ARCHIVE (a quarterly newsletter focusing on gay and lesbian art and artists), a membership program, a research library and an archive of the permanent collection.

Though newly accredited as the first dedicated gay and lesbian art museum in the world, the Leslie/Lohman Gay Art Foundation, founded by Charles W. Leslie and Fritz Lohman, has for more than 20 years, persevered in its mission to exhibit, preserve and foster the works of gay and lesbian art and artists. The new museum will now exhibit and analyze a wider range of art and artists, national and international, while staying true to its mission.  A non-profit, membership organization, the museum is committed to offering all of its exhibitions with no admission charge.

Boycott HRC for Honoring Goldman Sachs

As the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans, the Human Rights
Campaign represents a force of more than one million members and
supporters nationwide — all committed to making HRC’s vision a reality.

HRC is NOT  a  non profit – and in recent years, I believe, their dinners are all about who throws them the most money. For  lobbying. Allegedly.

Now, with this announcement of HRC honoring Goldman Sachs, this publisher, WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT  HRC.

Queer/LGBTIQA2Z Occupy Wall Street, a caucus of the NYC based Occupy
Wall Street movement, announced today that it will protest a Human
Rights Campaign (HRC) Gala honoring Goldman Sachs on Saturday February
4, 2012 at the Waldorf Astoria.

In contrast to the $650 a plate Gala, the Queer/LGBTIQA2Z Caucus will
host a “Guerrilla Potluck” on the sidewalk outside of the prestigious
hotel at 50th Street & Park Avenue from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Queer Caucus:  1.  Condemns HRC for honoring Goldman Sachs, 2.
Calls upon HRC to adopt a strategy of Full Equality by 2014, and 3.
Demands that HRC create a transparent process that includes the
grassroots.

1.  The Queer Caucus condemns HRC’s decision to honor Goldman Sachs in a
time of financial collapse caused by their own unethical business practices
and greed,
and deplores the use of our cause and suffering for
corporate public relations.    HRC honoring Goldman Sachs at this time
reveals all one needs to know about the corporate LGBT lobby, and its
disconnect from the 99% and the LGBT people it purports to represent.

2.  The Queer Caucus calls upon HRC to embrace the grassroots demand for
Full Federal Equality by 2014 – the 50th Anniversary of the 1964 Civil
Rights Act.

After 60 years of struggle, there is still not a single federal
non-discrimination law protecting LGBT Americans from discrimination.
More incredibly, HRC, the corporate entity that controls our strategy,
is not even seeking equal protection for our community.

To address this, the Queer Caucus calls on HRC to take The Pledge for
Full LGBT Equality to seek and secure full non-discrimination
protections based on sexual orientation and gender identify for all
people.

The right to be protected from discrimination secures a core liberty
interest.  And it is the duty of government to protect LGBT Americans
from the harm caused by discrimination as a matter of public welfare,
law and conscience, as it has for decades for all other oppressed
groups.

As HRC restrains the demand for equality, discrimination takes its
insidious toll on LGBT Americans who suffer vast psychological harm
rejected by their families and society, driven to suicide at 5 times the
heterosexual norm by tormenting, minority stress afflictions, and lost
hope.

A whopping 40% of homeless youth identity as LGBT, 66% of Transgender
people have been fired or not hired for a job, 60% of our youth are
taunted and feel unsafe at school, and LGBT people are 6x more likely to
have multiple mental stress disorders due to societal discrimination.

“Homo/transphobia in America is a public health and economic emergency
for our community” said Michael Tikile, an occupier and Duke University
graduate. “We are not safe in school, work or housing. How are we
supposed to live, pursue happiness or achieve economic equality?”

3.  The Queer Caucus also demand that HRC open the process with transparency and grassroots inclusion.

Currently, HRC operates under a closed, hierarchical system, controlled
by a financial elite, insulated from grassroots input.   Likewise, in
Congress, Democrat House members Barney Frank, Jared Polis and Tammy
Baldwin, keep the grassroots out of the conversation, protecting the DNC
strategy from movement agitation and impact.

With this structure in place, queer occupiers know that only a handful
of privileged voices are setting the national queer agenda and strategy,
defining what “LGBT equality” means and who our friends are.

For example, HRC’s key sponsors includes a long list of big businesses
that contributed to recent economic and environmental distress,
including Citi Bank, Bank of America, Chevron, BP, Shell, Morgan
Stanley, MetLife, Deloitte, Lexus, Prudential, and Ernst & Young.
This  is  BS. HRC  should not be taking corporate  blood money.

“With all of these companies, you’d expect the power to be on our side!
But instead, our community is simply a tool and pawn in the political
system” said Tanya Walker, an original occupier and tireless transgender
activist.

Simply put, the Queer Caucus demands equal non-discrimination
protections under the 1964 Civil Rights Act because equality is the only
true antidote to LGBT abuse  – like it has proven to be for race, sex,
national origin, religion, age and disability – long protected from
discrimination by law.

“Equality and non-discrimination are universal values that define basic
human dignity” said Todd (Tif) Fernandez, a human rights lawyer and
grassroots activist.  “It is our civic duty as Americans to protect and
respect the LGBT community immediately.”

Please Take the Pledge for Full LGBT Equality (by 2014) (http://bit.ly/the2014pledge).

Join the Guerrilla Potluck (http://on.fb.me/GuerrillaPotluck). Bring flashlights.

Join Queer/LGBTIQA2Z OWS Caucus organizing, Sundays at 1pm, 60 Wall Street or on FB http://on.fb.me/QueerOWS.

Musical AVANTGARDE to be Released this Month on CD

The Classic Broadway HIT Musical “AVANTGARDE”
Soundtrack… will finally be released via Famous

New York singer/songwriter Ernest Kohl has spent years trying to make this happen. He explains, “When I was 16  I starred in a Broadway musical that had a huge wonderful
successful opening  and  was eventually moved uptown to B-way & was selling
out every night to great reviews. It was  AVANTGARDE.

Well, Actors Equity unfortunately went
in to new rules  and  4 big musicals closed.  Ours was one of them- the Original Cast Recording was
never released and because of that, it put a lot of actors out of work.

It is very sad, that over the years  ALL of the guys in the original cast,  outside of me,  have passed away from
AIDS.

All the woman are still living and  many have great
careers & TONY’s now!

 I promised my best
friends on their deathbeds,  I would get this Cast Album out- Somehow, some day. And over the years, this has been my goal.

Finally on December  31st – The Original Cast Album of “AVANTGARDE” will be released!  I am so excited. It has
been fully restored & remastered & with a special bonus  track
added (it did not fit on vinyl back then).

 Now it will
finally be out on CD & on Digial Download for the world to experience it’s
magic.
I succeeded in  my mission.

There is even talk of a revival if the
album does well…it would have to be re-done & up-dated. But that’s why
this legendary Cast album (that’s now has huge cult appeal ) must come
out & we had so many requests for it.

It is exciting that the original Cast Musical
“AVANTGARDE” will be released & the beautiful voices of our lost men
to Aids will finally be heard by the world and I was able to keep my promise to
them! We are dedicating it in memorial trubite to the guys lost.”

Globetrotting Around the World with Jesse Archer and His Recent Interview with Adaumbelles Quest

Jesse Archer is an award-winning writer, actor, and director of film and stage.

JESSE  is working his ass off these days!  He now lives in Sydney with his partner, but he recently traveled back to the US for series of projects.

Early April he was in Los Angeles – “I had a great time with the talented cast & crew of Eating Out 4, now shooting concurrently with its 5th installment in Los Angeles.

Nobody can accuse me of not being a versatile…actor.  For Eating Out 4, I did it in the shower! Phillip J. Bartell and director Allan Brocka wrote a hilarious script and I am thrilled to be a part of it. All I’m going to say is *spoiler alert* that I get to have sex in the shower with a much younger man and then get stabbed to death while coming.  It’s very postmodern Janet Leigh. In other words, dream role!

Got to have some wet fun with sexy star Chris Salvatore.”

Read more about Eating Out 4 on Jesse’s site.

Then our bi-coastal Jesse showed up in New York with his boyfriend –  and also with actor/director Casper Andreas –  doing some promotions for the upcoming release of  Violet Tendencies   DVD. (Available on dvd May 24th).  It’s Caspers and Jesses third film together –  and along with Mindy Cohn (Facts of Life) she plays
a woman tries to distance herself from her gay friends in an effort to land a straight boyfriend.

Jesse attended the “wedding” of some dear friends, while in NYC –  THEN Jesse met with his team in  New York to do some post-production of his upcoming comedy about Fire Island called  HALF SHARE.

THEN, I don’t know how he found the time, he chatted with our New York Blogging Buddy  Adam of Adaumbelles Quest.   Jesse talks about “a  few of my favorite things including travel, movies, Angelina Jolie and Smurfette.  Not in that order!”    –  “Travel keeps you young. You’re always discovering new things, like a child, and are able to incorporate these experiences into your life. As a writer, it’s excellent to absorb new influences and inspiration to keep you fresh.”

WTF is Wrong With Apple Ipod Ipad Freaks?

 WTF is wrong with people?

I DON”T GET IT!

This is not a gay news –
 just a crazy news!

Amanda Foote is
smiling because earlier today, she sold her spot in the iPad 2 line  (in NYC) for $900. Foote waited outside the Fifth Avenue Apple flagship for almost 41 hours, powering through sleep deprivation, yesterday’s downpour, and an incident in which a stranger stole her donuts. Ultimately, she sold her space to an app developer who told Mashable that he bought it because he wants his new iPad with him when he leaves on a business trip tonight. I don’t think you can write that off dude.

If you had bought Apple stock instead of an iPod back in 2001, you’d be about $10,000 richer. According to an assessment by Kyle Conroy, you’d be a few times richer if you bought Apple stock instead of Apple gear on day of launch.

What does this say about us, as consumers?

Ricky Martin WILL be in the Revival of EVITA 2012

Rumors have been floating around  for the last year, and now it has been confirmed that Ricky Martin will star as Che in the Broadway revival of Evita, opening in spring 2012.

The contracts have been signed and he will join Argentine actress Elena Roger  who will star as Eva Peron, a role she played in London in 2006. Michael Grandage directed that production and will oversee the Broadway revival.

Martin said “I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to perform on many of the world’s largest concert stages, but I’ve never lost my love for the intimacy of the theater.

I’m delighted to know that after I’ve had the chance to share new music and tour over the coming year, that I will then return once again to Broadway. I’m looking forward to playing such an essential part in Michael Grandage’s wonderful production and the chance to work with the tremendously talented Elena Roger.”

Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin both won Tony Awards in 1980 for their performances as Eva and Che in the original Broadway production, which also won Tonys for best musical, director (Harold Prince), score, book and lighting design. That production ran for more than 1,500 performances, from September 1979 to June 1983.

Ricky talked to Billboard last week  about his new album MAS  and coming out.  While  he is very happy with his twins Matteo and Valentino he said he  wants to expand his family by adopting a girl. He is considering adopting a girl in near future.

“I want more  children. This is only the beginning of our family… I don”t know (how many). Maybe one, two more. But yeah, definitely. I need daddy”s girl!”

Lady Bunny Speaks Out in Huffington Post – DON’T ASK, DON’T GO!

The always FABULOUS  LADY BUNNY
speaks out today on Huffington Post!

I sure hope that Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is repealed. Gays deserve equal rights across the board. Case closed.

That said, why on earth would anyone want to enlist right now?

The two unpopular wars we’re fighting barely even came up in the midterm elections. Except with gays — for some reason we’re eager to join in the fight. Dan Choi, the poster boy for repeal, recently equated the bullying that the legislature engages in by keeping DADT in place with the bullying that’s caused a rash of teen suicides that shocked the gay community. OK, so I guess all gays agree that bullying is a bad thing. And that no one should do it, right? As the most hawkish nation, the US is the biggest and meanest bully in the world! Yet Choi and others want participate in its actions abroad? It’s not logical. Either bullying is wrong or it isn’t. While the schoolyard bullies harass people verbally the Pentagon flies soldiers to occupy foreign countries for indefinite killing sprees. Oh, but we call that Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Now if gays just want any job in a crummy economy and can stand bloodshed and withstand post-traumatic stress disorder, then the military’s a fine choice.

There can be no honor from serving in a shameful war. Anyone attempting to enlist now is condoning the horrors of of it. If fairness and equality is really the concern of gay people, then we can’t sign up to use force to impose our misguided will as we’ve been doing in Iraq for almost a decade. As people who’ve been bullied ourselves, we of all people must value compassion.

Dan Choi has claimed that “War is a force that gives us meaning.” Anyone who needs to obtain their meaning from something as depraved as preemptive attacks against innocent countries is at odds with any civil rights movement I can conceive of.

Last night on Rachel Maddow, discharged Lt. Colonel. Victor Fehrenbach described his service by saying “It’s my life.” Too bad that he can’t live his “life” without causing someone else’s death. Of course gays deserve civil rights. But Iraqis deserve them just as much as we do.
