YEP, SHE’S GAY! Jodie Foster Comes Out at Golden Globes

I have to wonder, what makes a celebrity come out all of sudden? When most of the world already knew?

Jodie Foster’s winding, emotional acceptance speech upon receiving the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes was one of the show’s standout moments. The six-and-a-half-minute oration, in which Foster addressed her sexuality, her privacy, her career and her family, seemed to draw a unanimous reaction at first: one of sheer surprise.

After the initial shock subsided, two big questions hung in the air.
Had Foster come out as gay? And had she announced her retirement?

She was not of the era when gay or lesbian stars held press conferences to discuss their private lives, she said.

I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago, back in the
stone age. In those very quaint days when a fragile young girl would
open up to trusted friends, and family, coworkers and then gradually,
proudly, to everyone who knew her. To everyone she actually met. But
now, apparently I’m told, that every celebrity is expected to honor the
details of their private life with a press conference, a fragrance and a
primetime reality show. You guys might be surprised, but I’m not Honey
Boo Boo child.

She went on, “If you had been a public figure since the time you were a toddler, if
you had to fight for a life that felt real and honest and normal against
all odds, then maybe you too would value privacy above all else.”

Is AIDS FUNNY? Aids Jokes On The Rise

When did AIDS become funny?

TWICE recently,  an AIDS zinger was slung on the Chelase Handler / Chelsea Lately show.  I was shocked the first time. I was really shocked the second time!
I watch her show every day. This happened twice in the last 14 days. And everyone on the round table thought it was funny and the audience laughed. I did not laugh.
Last monthX Factor finalist James Arthur became embroiled in a three-day Twitter row with comedian Frankie Boyle. At one point James wrote: ‘Your (sic) about as funny as aids..

Thats not bad. Because AIDS is not funny.

But on Handlers show the AIDS comments drew laughs.  AIDS is not funny Chelsea. I have lost so many friends to AIDS – its no laughing matter. Whats next? Breast Cancer jokes? How about 9/11 jokes??
What makes AIDS funny?  but not breast cancer? NO disease or tragedy is funny.

A new YouTube partner channel targeted specifically to an LGBT and like-minded audience, Gwist, will launch on January 14, 2013 from Logo TV founder and veteran cable and digital media executive, Matt Farber. Gwist (http://www.gwist.tv),
which stands for “TV With a Gay Twist,” is designed to appeal to anyone
who enjoys a gay sensibility, and will feature weekly short-form series
starring established LGBT talent and gay YouTube stars. Working closely
with the YouTube team , Gwist will also incorporate innovative uses of the Google+ Hangouts platform into programming.

“An
online video network is a natural next step in the evolution of gay
media and entertainment”, says Matt Farber, who has launched several
successful LGBT media brands including Viacom’s Logo, Clear Channel’s
“Radio With a Twist” and Sony’s “Music With A Twist” record label.  “The
social media, on demand, and universal distribution aspects of online
and mobile video are perfectly suited for niche programming.  With
broadcast and cable networks becoming more homogenous in order to reach
the broadest audience, and online video consumption reaching critical
mass, the time feels right for Gwist.”

Gwist
has formed relationships with Bud Light, Orbitz, and the Atlantic City
Alliance (the tourism marketing organization for Atlantic City, NJ) to
include brand integrations into specific shows.  Brand integrations, as
well as other creative and production services for Gwist will be
developed and produced by BARK BARK, a leading television brand
integration/production agency whose Founder, Brian Tolleson, was the
original Vice-President of Creative at Logo, and is a partner in the new
venture. Gwist has also teamed with the Gay Ad Network to provide
advertising services to reach brands that target gay and lesbian
consumers.

Gwist has
announced ten series, which include both original and established
programming that will roll out in the months following launch:

·         “Gwissues” with Howard Bragman—a panel discussion about a topic the LGBT community is talking about hosted by the legendary PR kingpin and television pundit.

·         The Randy Rainbow Show—signature
celebrity spoofs and comedic sketches featuring tongue-in-cheek
commentary from established YouTube star Randy Rainbow.

·         “The Untitled Spousal Equivalent Game” with Judy Gold—relationship

gay girls guide to sex and relationships for straight men starring
former WNBA star Margot Clark.  From Amy Goldstein/Steve Chivers.

scripted YouTube series about a towel-clad group of guys—gay and

“We
are really excited to have such a diverse slate of shows that appeal to
not only the gay audience, but also to anyone who wants to ‘be a gay’!”
added Farber. “We want producers and talent to see Gwist as a creative playground to showcase programming with a gay twist, and look forward to helping them find a home for their work.”

Jaymi Hensley, X Factor Heart-throb Comes Out as Gay

Jaymi Hensley, X Factor heart-throb Comes Out as Gay
By Shaun Knittel
Best Gay News Magazine Staff Writer
X Factor(UK)  heart-throb Jaymi Hensley has come out as gay. The Union J singer sought advice from his mentor on the show, Louis Walsh, who has managed top bands Boyzone and Westlife, about making his decision.
“Every boy band has got to have a gay one,” Hensley told The Sun in an exclusive November 17 interview. “And Louis just said ‘do it’.”
According to The Sun, Hensley is delighted he came out.
“I’m gay and I’ve never been happier,” he reportedly told the tabloid.
Josh Cuthbert, George Shelley and Jamie “JJ” Hamblett, his band mates in Union J, have always known that Hensley was gay.
“They have always supported me with doing this,” he said. “I didn’t want to do it in five years’ time when I have made money and had a career. I don’t think anyone should have to hide who they are.”
“I’d love my career to take off to the heights of One Direction,” said Hensley, signaling he doesn’t believe his decision will have a negative effect on the band.
The 22-year-old has been in a relationship with his boyfriend, 21, for three years. He declined to name his boyfriend, who is a hairdresser, but revealed the pair plans to marry and have kids.
Hensley says he decided to come out as he wanted to be honest with the X Factor viewers who have supported him and the band.
“I came out when I was 14 to my family and friends and never had one piece of negativity,” he said. “It is a brave move. There could be negative people, but they are just sad and stuck 20 years ago. I hope the reaction will hopefully be, ‘OK, we kind of knew, but well done on coming out’. I don’t want people to think I have hidden this to gain votes because I am so proud of who I am. I hope people respect me for being honest.”
Hensley shared another story about why he decided to come out as gay. “I got a tweet from a boy who must have been 13 or 14 asking if the rumors that I was gay were true,” he said. “He said he really wished I could be out because he didn’t have anyone to look up to and was finding it really hard to fit in and tell his parents.”
“I was that kid at 14 and really wish I had someone to say it was OK to be pictured on the red carpet with a guy and be gay in a boyband,” said Hensley.
He was also inspired by other talent show stars such as Will Young and Joe McElderry who previously came out.
“They’ve been an inspiration and hopefully I can be one too,” said Hensley. “If I can help just one kid out there, that is enough for me.”

Honey Boo Boo’s Gay Poodle – Uncle Lee

In the “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” season finale we were introduced to Honey Boo Boo’s “Uncle Poodle”

Uncle Poodle is Sugar Bear’s younger brother, Lee Thompson, who
happens to be gay. But, Uncle Poodle’s sexuality isn’t an issue because
“Ain’t nothing wrong with being a little gay! Everybody is a little
gay,” Honey Boo Boo shared.

Lee, who is the thinner, much less heterosexual version of his brother Sugar Bear, then explained to the camera, “Alana calls me poodle because poodle is a term for being gay. So, I’m a poodle.”

In an interview with the Georgia Voice
last week, Thompson, 29, first explains the origins of “Uncle Poodle,”
telling the paper it all started with Boo Boo’s pageant coach.

“We were at practice one day, getting ready for a pageant. Her coach
was talking about her gay friends, and she said, ‘I love all my
poodles.’ Alana thought she was really talking about dogs. She wanted to
know how many poodles she had, and what were their names,” Thompson
said in his sit-down with Topher Payne. “And I said, ‘No, Alana, she’s
talking about gay people.’ Well, that did it. All gay people are poodles
to her now, and I’m her number one poodle.” Boo Boo would then use the
p-word to describe Anderson Cooper, who was at that point about a month
away from officially coming out.

Thompson later discussed how he
and long-time boyfriend Josh married in August, surrounded by friends
and family, something many may assume would cause a stir in the deep
south. It didn’t. Not in Midgeville, at least, and Thompson says all the
acceptance he has experienced comes from the fact that he accepts
himself.

“I’m gay, but I’m as redneck as I can get,” he says. “f
you want people to accept you, you have to show you don’t have a
problem with yourself and just be up front about who you are. If you do,
you earn people’s respect. If everybody would just go on and do that,
ignorant people couldn’t cause so many problems. I know this is how I
was born and I don’t need to explain it to anybody. I live my life for
who I am. That’s why ‘Born This Way’ is gonna be my next tattoo.”

If
anyone has a problem with him or the other few dozen LGBT people in the
area, he doesn’t know about it: “If there’s people who have a problem
with [homosexuality], they keep it to themselves, just like if I have a
problem with them, I keep it to myself.”

Protests Over Jennifer Lopez’s New TV Show…The Fosters

Anti-Gay Group Protests

 Jennifer Lopez’s New TV Show

By Shaun Knittel

Best Gay News Magazine Staff Writer

Anti-gay group One Million Moms is incensed about a new ABC Family show called The Fosters, which doesn’t even have an IMDb page or a finished pilot.

In August, ABC Family announced that they had green lit The Fosters, an hour-long drama executive produced by Jennifer Lopez and created by Bradley Bredeweg and Queer as Folk‘s Peter Paige. The show will focus on a multi-ethnic family headed by a lesbian couple.

One Million Moms  (which is really  NOT 1,000,000 !)  has called the program “anti-family,” posting on its website:

“A premiere date has not been set, but One Million Moms wanted to sound the alarm about this new series. It will be airing on the network soon unless we do something about it. They are in the beginning stages.

ABC Family reported the comedy-drama pilot, working with the title The Fosters, is about two women raising a “21st century,” multi-ethnic mix of foster and biological kids. While foster care and adoption is a wonderful thing and the Bible does teach us to help orphans, this program is attempting to redefine marriage and family by having two moms raise these children together. One Million Moms is not sure how the explanation will be given on how the biological children were conceived. None of this material is acceptable content for a family show.

Hollywood is continuing to push an agenda that homosexuality is acceptable when scripture states clearly it is a sin. As Christians, the Bible also says that we must speak up against sin. If we remain silent then we are guilty of sin also.”

The group has urged its supporters to email ABC Family, telling the network that they will not watch the show. They also ask supporters to say they “are prepared to join thousands of other voices in urging advertisers to place it on their ‘do not advertise’ list.”

This isn’t the first time One Million Moms has fixated on entertainment. According to Entertainment Weekly, the group has previously spoke out against NBC’s The New Normal, an Archie comic book featuring a gay wedding, J.C. Penney (for hiring Ellen DeGeneres as its spokesperson), and Ben & Jerry’s Schweddy Balls ice cream.

In addition, (according to the group’s website) its members are currently outraged about a Skittles commercial in which a teenage girl makes out with a walrus.

Hot Men from Chippendales Do Amazing Race

The two Chippendales dancers on CBS’ “The Amazing Race” competing on Sunday night’s Season 21 debut against 10 other teams came perilously close to being kicked off the premiere. Jaymes Vaughan and Jaymes Davis started off great rappelling down a 10-story L.A. skyscraper and being in the first group of seven teams to make the fastest flight to Shanghai.
Jaymes and James  originally joined Chippendales out of a
dare between the two of them but now they are both enjoying their stay
in Vegas,
which can be wild considering their profession. “It’s funny because it’s more room numbers,” Vaughan said when asked how
many phone numbers they get after a show. “You get…room keys handed
to you. It’s the strangest thing I’ve ever seen.”
The two Chippendales, who developed a close friendship years back when
they were models, revealed that they weren’t seeking attention or glory
when they signed up
for the race but rather wanted to
win the grand
prize of up to $2 million for their families.
Stay tuned…..

Undercover Princes and Princesses

TLC features Prince Manvendra of Rajpipla, the first Indian royal to come out openly in the all-new series
UNDERCOVER PRINCES premiering tonight at 10/9c.

This four part series features Prince Manvendra who in 1991 married
Princess
Yuvrani Chandrika Kumari from Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, because, he
claims, “I thought after marriage I will be alright because I never knew
and nobody told me that
I was gay and [that] this is normal. Homosexuality is not a disease. I
tremendously regret for ruining her life. I feel guilty”. The marriage
ended in
divorce
when Manvendra revealed his homosexuality to his wife.

In March of 2006, the story of Manavendra’s coming out made headlines in India and around the world. Effigies of the Prince were burnt in Rajpipla, and demands were made to strip him of his title. He expressed that he has no regrets about coming out, and that he believes the people of his state respect him for his leadership in educating on HIV/AIDS. As of 2008, he is the only known person of royal lineage to have publicly come out as gay.

UNDERCOVER PRINCES goes beyond a dating show and takes you into the realm of true docu-reality as the cameras capture what happens when three real life royals are forced to ditch their fleets of servants, live together and search for love as “undercovers.” It is really quite fascinating as they struggle to participate in simple tasks such as working an everyday job or cooking dinner.

The series follows  single princes and  single princesses from
around the world who go undercover in the UK in pursuit of true love,
according to a TLC press release. They hit up bars and clubs and try
online dating sites and even speed dating in search of their perfect
match to take back to their respective kingdoms.

episodes, followed by a one-hour update special scheduled to air on
Tues., Mar. 27.

“Undercover Princes” premieres Tues., Jan. 31 at 10 p.m. EST on
TLC and “Undercover Princesses,” premieres Tues., Feb. 28 at 10 p.m. EST

New

inspired by its eclectic, diverse and accepting spirit.

I am honored
that Gray Line New York has
made me a part of their Ride of Fame campaign, and I hope to continue
contributing to what this great city stands for and stands in.

Kenneth Cole

Kenneth Cole was honored by Gray Line New York yesterday in New York City, as the tour company’s November 2011 Ride of Fame dedicatee.

Mr. Cole is the first fashion designer to be inducted in the campaign and is the only Ride of Fame inductee to design his own bus wrap.

The celebration was timed to coincide with Cole’s partnership with MTV Come Together AIDS Awareness Campaign where on December 1, 2011 (World AIDS Day) he will announce new call to action items and his newly designed AIDS awareness ribbon.

After his Ride of Fame ribbon cutting, Mr. Cole held the broken piece of red ribbon next to his chest, emulating an AIDS Awareness red ribbon.

Earlier this month, Cole partnered with the MTV Staying Alive Foundation and amfAR on the reinterpretation of the iconic AIDS ribbon. Designed to commemorate the discovery of the virus 30 years ago, and to ignite a new wave of awareness about the pandemic with the next generation, the new AIDS ribbon, features a double loop, and symbolizes the coming together of individuals and the re-doubling of efforts in the fight against HIV and AIDS. In addition as part of this campaign as noted above, Cole will be announcing a call to action including the new AIDS ribbon on World AIDS Day, December 1.

Stonewall Uprising on PBS beginning April 25th

I am 45 years old. And was talking with a 25 year old the other day, who had NO IDEA what Stonewall was?!  REALLY?!  They should make these kids take a test before they get their GAY CARD!

When police raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in the Greenwich
Village section of New York City on June 28, 1969, the street erupted into
violent protests that lasted for the next six days. The Stonewall riots, as they
came to be known, marked a major turning point in the modern gay civil rights
movement in the United States and around the world.

Many young LGBTs have NO IDEA, that In the late 1960s, the American Psychiatric Association still classified
homosexuality as a mental disorder, and gay men and lesbian women received
almost universal moral condemnation from mainstream religions. The act of
homosexual sex, even in private homes, was punishable by a light fine, 20 years
in prison, or even a life sentence!

STONEWALL UPRISING was released last year to critical acclaim. It is important film for everyone to watch!

In this 90-minute film, AMERICAN EXPERIENCE draws upon eyewitness accounts
and rare archival material to bring this pivotal event to life. Based on David
Carter’s critically acclaimed book, Stonewall: The Riots that Sparked the
Gay Revolution
, Stonewall Uprising was produced by Kate
Davis and David Heilbroner.

Monday April 25th, PBS American Experience will air Stonewall Uprising!

She now lives on a farm now – a fully functional, 40-acre macadamia nut and livestock farm on Hawaii’s Big Island, which will be the setting for her new unscripted reality series, premiering later this year on Lifetime.

The show will follow the Emmy-winning comedian, 58, and her long-time boyfriend Johnny Argent and son Jake as they make a new life for themselves in this unusual setting.

“They’ve said ‘Roseanne’s nuts’ for years, and now I’m going to make that a reality,” Barr says in a statement. “I’m all about nuts now. Macadamia nuts!”

Lifetime has ordered 16 half-hour episodes of the as-yet-untitled docu-series, and promises “a funny, outrageous and unfiltered look at the adventures of one of television’s greatest stars transitioning into a new life that is a far cry from Los Angeles,” according to a release.

New Gay Web Series IN BETWEEN MEN

In Between Men
is a sexy, new dramedy  (on the web) about All- American guys who feel caught between two worlds, not truly knowing where they fit in.

In Between Men follows four friends in NYC who live “in between” a gay world, whose clichés they don’t relate to, and a straight world they don’t belong to.

They are successful, professional men not defined by their sexuality. Through wild adventures, racy storylines, joys and pains, underscored by the pulse of New York City, In Between Men examines the relationships the men have between each other, their lovers, and the greater community.

In Between Men is a  new web series, supported by Marc Jacobs, that, according to its publicist “is about masculine, gay men who feel caught between two worlds. Obviously, they are not straight, nor do they identify with the behaviors of mainstream gay social scene for the most part, so they live somewhere in between.”

Just as Lisa Cholodenko’s The Kids Are Alright brilliantly depicts a lesbian married couple with two kids as de facto in mainstream community consciousness, giving gay and straight people a different look at variations on gay living, In Between Men can offer a representation of gay life that gives gay athletes a basis of identification and hope and straight athletes a basis knowledge and permission to accept them.

DORITO’s and Frito-Lay GO GAY for the Superbowl 2011

4 men…
.and a bag of Dorito’s!

A bag of Doritos brings two nearly naked men in a sauna closer together in one of two gay-themed ads the company may air during the Super Bowl.

Frito-Lay hopes that dirty, sexy, silly will sell chips.

Doritos has two commercials that The Advocate says  MAY  RUN  during the Super Bowl.

One is silly and funny. One is pretty dirty/sexy and then funny.

You just know, both will probably anger some queen somewhere because they both rely on stereotypes. But for the record, we still like them.
