25 Years of Coming Out on OPRAH
When it comes to media organizations currently celebrating a silver anniversary, even we at GLAAD have to admit that Oprah is clearly number one. On Tuesday’s show, Oprah will look back at 25 years of covering issues that impact the LGBT community and will feature special guests Greg Louganis and Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil.
Louganis, an Olympic gold medalist and world champion diver, came out at the 1994 Gay Games in New York City, and spoke with Oprah about his experience as a world-class athlete who came out as gay. He will return to discuss his life, more than 15 years later.
India’s Prince Gohil was a guest for the first time far more recently, in 2007. He appeared on Oprah’s show after his family disowned him for coming out.

Cedric Martinez…Where is he Now?
We were introduced to Cedric Martinez, Lisa Vanderpump’s young, hot, and gay live-in house guest/personal trainer, from the very first episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
We laughed along as Lisa’s husband, Ken Todd, said something along the lines of, “He better be gay” as we watched Lisa and Cedric do everything from fold laundry to work out together.
But we weren’t satisfied with Lisa’s nonchalant explanation of her “weird” relationship with Cedric. What exactly is weird? And how did he end up living with the Todd-Vanderpumps? Not every personal trainer — no matter how often the customer works out — moves in with their clientele…
Well, in one interview, Cedric claims he has known the Vanderpump family for more than 15 years. He says Lisa told him about the show prior to filming, but he didn’t say if Lisa asked him to move in after spilling the beans, or if he’d lived there prior.
When asked what he does for the family, Cedric is very vague: “I am me,” he says, and adds, “They’re like my family.” We come to see him help out at one of the couple’s restaurants. But other than that, he doesn’t seem to do much else. One thing we do know for sure is that the Vanderpumps and Mr. Martinez don’t always occupy the same space. In fact, while staying with Lisa and Ken, Martinez had his own 3,500-square-foot guest house on the Vanderpump’s $32 million property.
In Season 1, Episode 11, “How to Behave,” Cedric opened up to Kyle Richards about his past, telling her about growing up on the streets of Paris with his mother, a French prostitute. And being left homeless by his mother.
Cedric might be a bit of a “fame seeker,” because he seems to have dabbled in just about everything Hollywood has to offer. He’s done some modeling (in the 90’s, he was one of the most sought-after commercial and print models in Europe due to his jaw-dropping good looks) and some acting, gets invited to fashion magazine parties and says he’s currently writing a book (some kind of tell-all). He has done a variety of things from being a ‘manny’ in his twenties to fronting a boy band signed by Warner Bros and singing with Eric Clapton in front of thirty thousand fans, to running the hottest clubs in London, where he spent 10 years.
Apparently, as of lately Cedric is living on someone’s couch in a zip code far from the 90210 ….and trying to land acting jobs and shows up at gay events all the time.
Last week he had a barely attended viewing party at an LA gay club and is always on the scene trying to get his picture taken, allegedly. He recently seemed in great spirits at the party, ““The world is my oyster at the moment,” he said. “I am finishing writing my tell all book, I am taking more acting classes, doing some modeling again and my ultimate dream is to end up on a soap.”
While Adrienne Maloof has since cast aspersion on Cedric’s version of events on an episode of Watch What Happens Live, Cedric’s story clearly affected Lisa enough to shelter him for several years. In the finale episode of RHoBH, Lisa and Ken finally tell Cedric it’s time for him to leave. He left their house – and the restaurant job. Its reported that the Vanderpumps and their former houseguest no longer speak.
*Cedric was romantically linked to ex-NSYNC member Lance Bass last fall.. Apparently, Bass was cheating on his then-boyfriend with Martinez. The romance was short-lived, but apparently Cedric will tell anyone and everyone about the dalliance.

Yigit Pura….Delicious Top Chef from Just Desserts
For fans of Top Chef, this new show featuring the best pastry chefs from around the country competing against each other is as natural as putting chocolate and creative chefs together.
Team Gay seems includes, not one, not two, but three out pastry chefs: Zac Young, Yigit Pura and Tim Nugent.

29-year-old Yigit Pura (pronounced “Yeet”) is originally from Ankara, Turkey, but now lives in San Francisco. A pastry chef for ten years, Purga was a fan of the original Top Chef, which he calls “therapy for chefs,” but had no plans on being on TC: JD. But when he was visiting a friend in New York City, the show contacted him and Pura began a process he calls a “wild rollercoaster” ride. But he says that “…was a very small preparation for the wild rollercoaster ride that was the show.”
AFTER ELTON reveals Pura is currently single (and looking!) he did have a boyfriend during the show, a topic that apparently came up during filming, something that made him happy. “I do a lot of queer activism in New York with HRC and American Equality,” says Pura . “I felt it [Just Desserts] was a very natural platform for America to see that gay men can be as natural as anyone else, and they can be talented and ambitious and polite, and one’s sexuality has nothing to do with the person that they are.
Asked about the attitude of savory chefs toward pastry chefs, Pura says his experiences have been good and bad, and ultimately depends on the personality of those involved. But he does allow that “… most savory chefs do tend to think that pastry chefs are these dainty, cute little things that play with flour, you know? And eat chocolate all day. What they don’t understand is that it has a lot more planning and science and knowledge that goes into it. A pastry chef is usually very compulsive and detail-oriented.”
Pura is quite handsome and fit! Something he says he maintains even though he eats “absurd quantities of sugar” by exercising a lot, including biking 115 miles a week. WOW!

Madonna Speaks Out on Ellen About Anti Gay Bullying
It’s like lynching black people or Hitler exterminating Jews.
Madonna spoke out against homophobic bullying, calling it “torture”.
She appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show this via video-link.
The superstar, referring to an apparent spate of suicides among gay teenagers, said: “The concept that we are torturing teenagers because they are gay – it’s unfathomable.
“Sorry if I’m going on a rampage right now but this is America.
The land of the free and the home of the brave. I’m incredibly disturbed and saddened by the overwhelming number of teen suicides that have been reported lately because of bullying,” she says.
Madonna said that she could relate to teenagers who feel isolated because of their sexuality or gender identity.
“I still feel different,” she said. “I can totally relate to the idea of feeling isolated and alienated. I was incredibly lonely as a child, as a teenager. I have to say I never felt like I fit in in school.”
She said she was taken to a gay disco by a gay ballet teacher, who “told me it was good and okay to be different and ironically made me feel I was part of the world and it was okay to be different”.
The star also thanked the gay community for backing her.
The gay community “has been incredibly supportive of me” she said. “I wouldn’t have a career if it weren’t for the gay community.”

Joanna Lumley has revealed she will be reunited with Jennifer Saunders, 52, in a revival of the hit television sitcom.
The actress said she was in talks with Miss Saunders – who created the show – to bring back the champagne-guzzling, foul-mouthed, chain-smoking fashionistas for a comeback.
A revival of the globally successful sitcom would mark a much-anticipated return for Miss Saunders, 52, who has spent the past year undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
A spokesman for Miss Saunders said: ‘Though there have been rumours circulating that the show is coming back, Jennifer will not be releasing any statements about it at this time.’

Steven Daigle and Trent Locke Fight at the Abbey…During Real Houswives of Atlanta

cast member turned gay adult film actor Steven Daigle, was arrested Monday October 18, 2010 after a viewing party for his appearance on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. (It was a tiny cameo. He was a backup dancer for Kim Zolciak at the White Party when she performed Tardy for the Party. Chi Chi LaRue introduced her. And you see Steven a couple seconds.)
It is reported that Steven and several of his friends had gathered earlier in the evening at the Abbey in West Hollywood, CA to watch his appearance on the Real Housewives Of Atlanta” when boyfriend and fellow gay adult film actor Trent Locke approached Daigle at The Abbey and started to argue with Daigle. The heated argument quickly ensued into an all out brawl between the two gay adult film actors.
After Steven Paul Daigle and Trent Locke were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, Daigle was placed into custody in the early morning hours and is now being held at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s station on $20,000 bail.
Trent Locke spoke out on his blog regarding the incident at the Abbey and while both performers were injured in the fight, Locke still has his heart for Steven Daigle. Here is what he posted earlier this evening;.
“I just want to say that I love Steven Daigle and am so upset and deeply embarrassed that things happened the way they did. I have so much respect for him, I would never take a swing at him. And I did not. I know he is hurting too, and my heart just goes out to him, especially while in custody. It’s times like this I try to put my faith in some kind of higher power to help both of us through them.”
Locke continues..”My head and my heart are both hurting and I feel lost, confused, and afraid.. While I know all will heal in time, I appreciate all of the support I’ve been receiving. I have the all-clear to get out of bed as of the morning.. So I will be able to continue entertaining my Mom and Dad (they only visit once a year) bright ‘n early.Tomorrow is bound to be a better day. Thanks for hearing me out, everyone.”

Celebrity Fashion Designer Chris March Returns to BRAVO
Bravo is set to announce a quartet of reality shows in development, including three based in the celebrity-service industry.
The shows expand the network’s reality slate under new vp development Eli Lehrer, who was promoted in July to head the department.
“This is the first of many new developments we have going since we put our new development team in place,” Bravo president Francis Berwick said. “We’re specifically developing around our five passion potions: food, fashion, beauty, design and popular culture.”
One of the projects WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT is an untitled series centering on celebrity fashion designer Chris March . The show will follow the former “Project Runway” contestant and his crew of fashion misfits as they create a one-of-a-kind design for a loyal clientele that includes Madonna and Meryl Streep. Police Officer, Reality Star, Porn Star Michael Verdugo Wants His Job Back
Ex-Hollywood officer Michael Verdugo has filed a lawsuit to keep his police certification after losing his job over a porn film.
Former Hollywood cop Mike Verdugo, fired after word spread on the Internet that he was in a gay porn film, is now fighting to keep his Florida police certification.
Last week, Verdugo’s lawyers held a news
conference and rally in Florida’s Wilton Manor seeking support for him.
Hollywood Police Department fired him for not disclosing previous employment — the porn film — on his job application, Verdugo’s lawyers said.
Verdugo, who also was a former Design Star contestant on HGTV, has sued to get his job back. The suit is scheduled to be heard in November in Broward Circuit Court.
People are SO JUDGEMENTAL. Verdugo, who grew up in Hialeah, says he made the film for $700 at age 22 as a way of exploring his sexuality. He performed nude in a bondage scene, but didn’t engage in hard-core sex, he said. So Big deal. Who should care, really?
Three years later, he decided to become a police officer.
Verdugo said it never occurred to him to put the movie on his résumé when he first became a Lauderhill cop in 1999, or when he applied to the Hollywood department two years later. Who would? I mean it wasn’t really a “job”!
Regardless of how the FDLE hearing turns out, Verdugo says, he will continue to lobby for passage of a federal gay rights measure — the Employment Nondiscrimination Act — that would prevent gay and transgender people from being fired on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Coming Out Of The Closet – Reality Show
Howard Bragman,
the veteran Hollywood publicist and founder of agency Fifteen minutes, had sold a one-time reality TV special to A&E, he confirmed to PRNewser today.
Bragman, who has helped a number of clients “come out” including Chaz Bono and Meredith Baxter, will focus the show on just that. Naturally, the title of the show as of press time is Coming Out, and will feature well known figures coming out of the closet.
“I’m the guy people come to when they want to come out, it’s something I’ve done for twenty years,” Bragman told PRNewser today .
So how did the idea come about?
Bragman said that he was approached by some producers who told him the topic could make for an interesting show. He teamed up with producers JUMA Entertainment and A&E bought the show as a one time special, which is scheduled to air sometime in the fourth quarter of 2010.
“We’re in casting right now,” said Bragman, “looking for the best stories.” When asked if he would feature his clients on the show, Bragman left that open as a possibility, but also said that it is not a requirement for appearing on the show. I’ve been approached multiple times to do reality shows,” he said. “And what I don’t want to be is that screaming publicist who is yelling because he doesn’t like Paris Hilton’s table maid at an event…you know how they like to portray publicists in Hollywood. This is the first chance I had to do something that I found empowering and that could change the world a little.“
Gay American Idol Conestant Sues for $300 Million
A gay man whose antics have made him an infamous “American Idol” reject now claims in a new lawsuit that the show discriminated against him.
Ian Benardo, who auditioned for American Idol in 2007, has reportedly filed a $300 million anti-gay discrimination complaint with New York’s Division of Human Rights, claiming he was exploited because he’s gay, Zap2It reports : “In the complaint, Benardo says the ‘Idol’ powers that be ‘exploited my non-conforming appearance and sexual orientation. They did this by directing me to ‘gay it up’ in any appearance I made on camera,’ according to the Journal-Constitution. ‘… Although characterized as an ‘audition’ to the public at large, in fact, I was and was paid as an employee of respondents for each appearance.’ Based on the word ‘audition,’ we’re assuming Benardo is referring to his 2007 tryout, which took place in New York.”
The AJC reports: “He said employees of ‘Idol’ derided him for his appearance using words like ‘fag’ and ‘homo.’ ‘The workplace,’ he said, ‘was permeated with discriminatory intimidation, ridicule, insults and hostile and offensive comments that were so severe as to alter my working conditions and create an environment that was abusive and ultimately threatening to my safety.’”
Gay and Lesbian Couples NEED NOT APPLY at NBC Modern Day Wedding Contest
NBC’s Today Show
is taking applications for its “Modern Day Wedding Contest” through Friday, July 9th. The winning couple will be awarded a wedding to be broadcast live on the Today Show in October and an all-expense paid honeymoon.
Unfortunately, the network has set up rules that deny committed gay and lesbian couples the ability to participate.
An excerpt from Today’s Facebook page reads: “TODAY is throwing a modern day wedding! Whether your love blossomed over the Internet or you met the old-fashioned way, we want to hear from you!”
GLAAD contacted the network last week to find out why its application listed only “bride” and “groom” as options for applicants since the Today Show welcomed same-sex couples to apply to its “Hometown Wedding Contest” in years past.

Please contact NBC and urge the network to open Today’s “Modern Day Wedding” Contest to same-sex couples. Call on NBC to demonstrate a commitment to fairness and inclusion by providing equal opportunity to qualified gay and straight couples alike.

This afternoon after GLAAD met with NBC executives and shared our community’s concerns, the network agreed to open the contest to same-sex couples!!
Following a meeting between GLAAD and NBC executives, NBC announced that after listening to community concerns it will open the contest to same-sex couples and extend the submission deadline until Monday, July 12. Couples now have until then to apply . Finalists will be announced later this year and the wedding takes place live on the Today Show this October.

TB’s Bill Compton Wants Hot Gay Vampire Sex with Alexander Skarsgard!
Compton joked that he is hoping for a bedroom scene with Alexander Skarsgård’s Eric Northman. ‘Alex is a good friend of mine and a fantastic actor and I love working with Alex and I don’t get to do it as much as I would love to,’ he revealed. ‘You never know – whether they’ll stick Eric and Bill in bed together, I don’t know. When the role calls for it, Ryan has no qualms about doing nude scenes. He notes that the Australian culture he grew up in was more open-minded than America, but he also appreciates that there was more to those scenes than the sex. It was about Jason looking for something: “I think that’s the beauty of working for HBO and particularly with Alan Ball, the fact that it’s not just shock for shock value or gore or nudity for the sake of showing skin. It always has a certain subtext or a specific story point that they are going towards. I also think it shows Jason’s vulnerability even though he may be very comfortable with his body and with women and all that, it shows that he’s searching for a sense of belonging.”
Sam Trammell, who plays bar owner Sam Merlotte on the hit vampire series said, “I haven’t read the books. I should though, just so I can answer questions about it. The sense I get is Twilight is PG and ours is bordering on NC-17,” Trammell says.
When it comes time to throw in the towel, or in this case, the shirts, Trammell compares himself to fellow actor Ryan Kwanten. “I definitely have to stay in good shape, but I don’t even try to compete with Ryan Kwanten,” Trammell says with a laugh. “I recently had to do a scene with my shirt off, and Ryan had his shirt off in the same scene. It doesn’t feel great.
No matter how good of shape you are in, you’re going to look bad.”

Albania Has No Gay People! Just Ask Klodian Cela of Big Brother
According to the Tirana, Albania, newspaper Shekulli, 400 people, mainly young men, took to the streets in the northern town of Lezhë on March 11, protesting
“Lezhë is clean – we have no homosexuals.”
This was the second demonstration in the town against “the Klodi case,” after an emotional declaration on television by Klodian Çela, from Lezhë, a cast member in the “Big Brother” house on the Top Channel reality TV program, that he is gay and calling for understanding from everybody, especially his mother.
The protesters in Lezhë demonstrated in the town’s main square, shouting “Klodi out, out,” and insisted that if he is not removed from the “Big Brother” house, they will step up their protests and continue them in Tirana.
Six skin heads supporters were arrested in Pazardzhik as they tried to assault a gay rights rally of only 6 LGBT activitists who arrived from Sofia; pictured: the anti-rally attracted 100 locals.
Six activists of the youth organization “Lesbians, Gay, Bi- and Transgender in Action” arrived to the city of Pazardzhik from Sofia in order to protest an order to local City Council banning the display of homosexuality in public.
The activities arranged large banners on which they started writing articles from the Bulgarian Constitution and the UN Human Rights Charter. No local gay rights activists joined them, Darik Radio reported.
However, about 100 local young men most of them with shaved heads and in black clothes staged an anti-rally claiming they had gathered to express their support for the order issued by the City Council.
As several of skin heads members attacked the gay rights activists they were immediately knocked down to the ground and arrested by the policemen guarding the rally, who were led personally by the head of the Pazardzhik Police Directorate, Commissar Stoyan Stoyanov.
No-one was hurt during the skirmish. However, the anti-rally protestors shouted offensive slogans directed against the gay rights activists such as “No one wants you, losers”, “Out of Pazardzhik”, “Go to Uganda, freaks”.
The gay rights organization has attacked the order of the Pazardzhik Municipality before Bulgaria’s Commission for Protection from Discrimination, which is to come up with a ruling on Wednesday.

Best Gay News Catches up With Hottie Artist David Bromstad of Color Splash
This past weekend, David Bromstad, host of HGTV’s Color Splash, was in Chicago. More than 500 people entered a contest to get one of 120 seats available at the Chicago event! David talked about paint and took questions from audience. He is even more charming in person than you can imagine and has this infectious happy energy!
Handsome hottie Bromstad, winner of HGTV’s first “Design Star” reality show four years ago, announced he has brought the show to Miami for the new season, which is filming now and will air in July. The new season will have bigger budgets and draw off many of Miami’s local artisans and design resources. And he said we’ll be seeing more of him him sculpting and designing pieces. He is very happy and very excited to be filming in his city where he lives with his partner of 6 years and their French Bulldog!
“I think Miami is a city that is absolutely inspiring; from the old and new architecture, to the mass amount of artisans and craftsmen, and of course the undeniable weather and overwhelming sexiness. David is really an artist and not really an interior designer. “My place is a little quirky. It’s very happy. Lot’s a greys and whites with an eclectic mix. I like big, bold pieces. I never intended on being in the public eye, therefore I never craved the attention. Now that I’m getting it, I can’t complain. I think I am the luckiest guy in the world to be blessed with what God has given me. I owe my parents and family everything. They taught me honest values that transcend fame.
I really like to help out any charities that help out the gay community and HIV/AIDS. Going to the GLAAD awards in San Francisco and presenting was one of the best memories ever.”
Before he jetted off back to Miami to resume filming he said, “I am so excited for Color Splash in Miami. It is going to be a very different show; a whole new cast. New city. New and exciting experiences. I really want to feature local artisans and craftsmen here in the Miami area. The talent here is so beyond anywhere else I have ever been, and I want to show America how fabulous Miami is. I am also going to show everyone that I’m not just a designer and painter, but I also build sculptures and create art and architectural installations myself. It should be a fabulous adventure!”
